FYI

SanDisk has today announced its new 4GB SDHC card. Its speed is rated Class 2 (not as fast as competing 4GB SDHC cards from Panasonic and Toshiba).

Since Leica has long decided to adopt the SD format for all its digital products (including the DMR and the upcoming M8), let us hope that all future Leica digital cameras (Dlux 3?) will support the new SDHC standard.

BTW, Leica Camera has a brand new web site as of today. Have a look: http://www.leica-camera.com/. What do you think of the new design ?

Cheers,

John F.

P.S. it might take a day or two until everyone can see the new web site

Nice! Now if only Leica could get the DMR firmware straightened out so we can even think about using 4GB cards ...

Given that Matsushita is one of the three original developers and founders of the SD format and SD Card Association respectively. I would suspect that any new Panasonic brand digital camera to be announce from now on will support SDHC. This should include the strongly rumored and soon to be announced Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 that most likely would be the basis of a Leica D-Lux 3.

Hopefully, at the other end of the Leica digital spectrum, with no relationship to Panasonic, the same will be true and the digital M will also support SDHC.

I really hope that the new firmware will support the 4GB SD. Given that we are all shooting (or going to shoot) in RAW, the larger SD card makes sense. Now, if only Epson would UPGRADE its P4000 to read a 4GB SD card as well!

I am really not so sure that addressing compatibility is simply a firmware issue.
