Black, blank, flickering screen when turning the camera on

Hi guys,

I purchased a second hand X1 on Ebay from a reputable dealer.

It arrived, but when I installed the battery and turned the camera on, the screen is a black-ish grey colour with a few more grey, green-ish thick and thin lines running/flickering across the screen.

This doesn't seem to be a battery issue, because the camera is starting up and is making the usual sounds/bleeps/clicks that a camera should. It's even taking photos. The trouble is - the screen just remains as illustrated in the photo above!

I've already contacted the seller and am waiting for a reply (they're licensed Leica dealers, so I'm not worried about them sorting this out). I just wanted to ask around to see if this is a known problem or if anyone has had this problem themselves before.

thanks a lot in advance.:)

Is there a green light that displays to the bottom right of the screen? If so, this may mean that you are in Viewfinder (VF) mode, which you can toggle out of by pressing the info button on the bottom left hand side array. This is explained in the manual. VF mode blanks the screen so you are not distracted when composing through it.

However, the flickering/ running lines you refer to are not right at all.
