Warranty of second hand gear

Dear All

the site query has lead me to many posts dealing with warranty; it seems to be generally assumed that the remaining time of the 2 year warranty transfers to the new owner.

However, I have not found an explicit statement anywhere what the conditions are under which a Leica warranty is extended to the second owner. Is it the original bill or is the first user required to have the camera registered with Leica or anything else.

I tried to find the actual Leica warranty condition document, but was not lucky.

Perhaps someone has all the facts or a pointer.

Thanks in advance

Tre

I have sent second hand gear to Solms for adjustment with a copy of the original receipt within the warranty period. And it was honored by Leica.

The original receipt form a official Leica dealer, with a valid purchase date gets you a long way. The receipt between you and the seller is not applicable as a warranty document.

Yes, thats about it. Just called LCS and they also stated:

1. original bill/receipt

2. if registered the first owner should release it, so that the next owner can

register it under her name.

sounds straightforward

+1 to what Bill said...plus there are different types of warranty ('standard', Passport, dealer), as well as different time frames for different gear (camera type, lens), etc. And, on top of that, Leica (Solms or NJ) have been known to treat some service situations on a gratis basis despite warranty terms to the contrary.

In short, best to understand your particular situation and not generalize.
