Archiver Posted February 20, 2012 Share #61 Â Posted February 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) In Australia I was on three waiting lists for the second batch of M9's. I had not paid a deposit but my intentions were honoured, nonetheless. Ironically I ended up getting one that had not been assigned to anyone and ended up in a shop that I had not listed with. Â Since then I've been on lists for other items like the Fuji X100, Fuji X10, Ricoh GXR M-module and others. I have never paid a deposit on any of these items. stunsworth Posted February 20, 2012 Share #63 Â Posted February 20, 2012 Why this desire to buy a camera with unknown spec? Â Because when the spec is released it will be a very popular camera.
adli Posted February 20, 2012 Share #64 Â Posted February 20, 2012 Because when the spec is released it will be a very popular camera. Â But still, you don't have a clue what it will offer above the M9.

jamesk8752 Posted February 20, 2012 Share #66  Posted February 20, 2012  nary a word from him since he posted the thread.......  I think the silence says it all  bit like dropping stink-bombs in church when I was a lad....  Considering the tone of some of these responses, and that the OP is a newcomer, I might be a bit reluctant to post any further myself if I were him. Perhaps we should make some allowances here...  Regards, Jim
Jager Posted February 20, 2012 Share #67 Â Posted February 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M9 (and my three other M bodies) and the handful of Leica M-mount lenses I own are my most prized possessions. They carry a significance in my life - and bring a daily pleasure - much disproportionate to anything else I own. It is that outsized impact that allows me to rationalize the ownership of a handful of things that, by all rights, ought to be outside my realm of economic choice. Â Even having heard no credible leaks of what the M10 will look like, or even what it's final price will be, I'll happily admit that I'll be among the first to get in line. The two months between when the M9 was announced and when I finally received mine were among the longest weeks I can ever remember. It was like being a kid again, waiting for Christmas. Â In the days of film, a new camera body only brought features. With the advent of digital, and the rapid advance of technology, what we see are very real image quality improvements. Â I fully expect the M10 to something very desirable. And, like the M9, unobtanium for many months after its launch. Â I think the OP's question was perfectly reasonable. stevelap Posted February 21, 2012 Share #68 Â Posted February 21, 2012 For what it's worth, I wasn't at the top of a waiting list and certainly didn't pay a deposit, but I still managed to get an M9 on day one in London..... Â It can be done with a good search strategy, some legwork, perseverance and perhaps a little luck:). I expect it will be the same for the new EVIL and the M10. Wallyvision Posted February 21, 2012 Share #69 Â Posted February 21, 2012 OK,are you guys, in your own gentle ways, trying to tell me that my M-3 is soon to be obsolete? Drat! On the upside, for those of us who like a bargain, the interest in the next greatest thing since sliced bread, will bring a plethora of bargains on the last next best thing. At least in Leica terms of what a bargain is. "Evil it is.........."
pico Posted February 21, 2012 Share #70 Â Posted February 21, 2012 Pico, you may well be right; or wrong! Either way, using a term like 'idiot' towards a forum member ignores the requirement of respect. Because this is not just a conversation between you and him, but an International broadcast, we need to maintain a modicum of restraint, no matter what the perception is. Â You are right, of course. I will also consider 'troll' an unacceptable term. Â Sometimes I'm just such an .... well the 'i' word, and I don't mean just impatient. Â My apologies to the members. I'll be quiet for a while. Messsucherkamera Posted February 21, 2012 Share #71 Â Posted February 21, 2012 Fact is, every new gadget is out of date by the time you get your hands on it. The manufacturers are already developing the next model. Sounds like yet another good reason to invest in film M cameras rather than digital... Perhaps we should make some allowances here... Regards, Jim  Many people who do not inhabit the planet Leica see all Leica owners as arrogant snobs. It's good to keep in mind that this phenomenon is real (whether right or wrong, the stereotype does exist.) We are all better off when we act as good ambassadors to the brand, and do not reinforce that stereotype.
sblitz Posted February 21, 2012 Share #73 Â Posted February 21, 2012 if memory serves the first run of M9s had a few problems out of the production including cracked sensors. nothing against leica per se, just that lots of firms have issues with first runs of a new model. i will prefer to sit back, read the posts praising the camera and roasting leica for its qc, and wait for the commotion to settle. after all, i have the m9, works great and no rush to buy into any manufactured hype for the greatest new thing you have to have. FlorianM Posted March 3, 2012 Author Share #75 Â Posted March 3, 2012 I didn't clarify a couple of things: I'm in the EU, but can't rely on my local dealer for this. I actually visited the store in Solms yesterday on a business trip, and they told me that I can order one there as long as I can go pick it up in person or have it shipped within Germany. I don't know if it will work out that way, so I'm still keeping my eyes open for other options. Â The M9/P is nearly at the end of it's retail lifespan, and the next M is likely to offer some significant improvements, so I'm willing to wait and see. Â I'm mostly keeping my fingers crossed for a 0.85 finder. I like the 1.25x on my M8...... Â
bpalme Posted March 3, 2012 Share #76 Â Posted March 3, 2012 Finding a new Summilux asph 35 or 50, Summicron 28, or A90 is still more difficult than a M10 or M11, and a much more serious challenge for aspiring M shooters.... Â If you are looking for the 28 Summicron look around. I find that one in stock at many places. It seems that the price is usually lower used too. RobertJRB Posted March 4, 2012 Share #80 Â Posted March 4, 2012 With Ferrari you have to build a good band with the dealer to be able to buy one or the early ones. Â So if you want the new F12 buy a 599 from them, and pay a large deposit for the F12. Than when the F12 is there trade in your 599 for way less than you bought if for and they will be happy to sell you the F12. Â So try this with leica, go to a dealer with always had early stock (henny hoogeveen from the Netherlands for example) Tell them you want to be first on the M10 list, give them a big deposit and buy a M9 to show your good will. Â Than when the M10 is there sell your M9 to them and enjoy your early M10.
