Flamez Posted February 15, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted February 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just taken the plunge and purchased a second hand X1 from reddot. Â I currently have a canon G11 (my wife loves it) but find it a little too automatic if you get my drift with a max f stop of f8 but in the main produces good images. Â My main camera is a nikon D700 with associated lenses and although i get great results it is a bit of a lump to carry around. Â I hope the leica will fill a gap of portability and good results. If so some of my nikon kit will become redundant and i will only keep the long lens for sport and a portrait lens perhaps. Â Anyway should be here in a couple of days so a weekend full of shooting... Â Hope to learn a lot from the forum...

Flamez Posted February 16, 2012 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 16, 2012 Its arrived and battery is now on charge. a quick read of the instruction book whilst waiting. Â Being second hand the condition is good and it was supplied with a thumbs up [although a little loose in the flash shoe], a 49mm adaptor for filters etc and a voigtlander view finder. Â The only downside being secondhand is I can't register the product with Leica [it tells me to contact the software dept] so it looks like I will have purchase lightroom..... iwh88 Posted February 17, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted February 17, 2012 Good purchase. You have bought a great camera and so simple to use. I got mine just before xmas ...still on a learning curve testing features. I find users on this forum give good advice and plenty tips. One that I recommend is to buy spare batteries. Enjoy your camera. Regards, Ian
nickma Posted February 17, 2012 Share #7  Posted February 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) You might try calling Leica Solms, explain that you are the new owner, and IF you are within the 2 year warranty period from new, ask if they can reset the online system so you can re register.  Secondly, you should ask if the previous owner downloaded Lightroom or not. 2 downloads are permitted per unit over the life of the warranty I think. If no copy was previously downloaded, they might permit you the download on the new registration.  I bought my X1 as a 2 month old unit last December, re-registered after contacting Solms customer service via email (allow a week for a response) and downloaded LR3 as the previous owner had not downloaded it.  One significant requirement was that I had a copy of the warranty book as well the original purchase invoice from the Leica authorised dealer it was acquired from. Without these, I do not believe they would have helped.  In that case Cameraworld in London and online has LR3 for an extremely reasonable £99. I already have lightroom 3 so if I wait for LR4 to be released, will the activation code that comes with the camera work or is it only for the earlier version?
