box86rowh Posted February 7, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently came across and purchased a Leica S1 and I have some questions. First off, how do you tell the difference between the Pro, High Speed, and the Alpha? Also, I only got the body and need to find the cable, PCI card, and software. Any suggestions on how to find these? Thanks! Chris

wda Posted February 7, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2012 Chris welcome! I would ask the vendor in the first instance. The vendor should have possessed the instruction manual. If you bought from a dealer, he/she should be able to answer your questions. But the S1 is a very old digital camera, so finding accessories might be a problem unless you are lucky. Maybe a forum member with knowledge of this camera can help you. You could also ask customer services in Solms. I doubt they receive many questions on that pioneering model. box86rowh Posted February 7, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted February 7, 2012 I called Leica in the US at least and they have a cable they are sending me but thats it. I also bought this at an estate auction, so no help there. It did come with the manual though. The only things it came with is 2 copies of the manual, a filter, and the HA 15350 Tilt-Shift adapter. wda Posted February 7, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 7, 2012 Have you tried Googling? The first response I read came from a very knowledgable member who occasionally posts in the X1 forum and others. His post from 2006 concerned Silverfast software. I am sure he would help you. Here is the link to his thread. dkCambridgeshire Posted February 9, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 9, 2012 I called Leica in the US at least and they have a cable they are sending me but thats it. I also bought this at an estate auction, so no help there. It did come with the manual though. The only things it came with is 2 copies of the manual, a filter, and the HA 15350 Tilt-Shift adapter. The 'camera' is really a scanner, and not a camera as such - because each exposure takes many seconds - so it's only suitable for still life/static subject matter. Your manual should give you an indication as to which S1 model you have and it's likely you will need more than just a cable to enable your camera to be fully operational. The Hasselblad? tilt shift adaptor would have been an optional extra. The complete S1 High Speed package comprised: Leica S1 High Speed scanning camera body ( Mine was S/N 22862XX) Leica M mount adaptor Leica R mount adaptor Interface box ( an enormous box of electronics several times bigger than the camera ... but the previous S1 models may not have required this box) Power supply Cable, camera to interface box Interconnect cable, power supply to interface box PCI board (SCSI board) PCI interconnect Mains cable with two pin plug Siverfast Job Management Manuals (English and German) Silverfast manuals (English and German) Instruction manual in loose leaf binder 2 sealed Silverfast 4.X discs (CD) for Windows 95/98/NT or Mac OS ab V.7 … one labelled Leica S1 SF v4.2.0 and the other Leica / HDR+JM , Leica / HDR Two floppy discs one labelled S1 HDR scan, the other labelled Leica S1 calibration The whole outfit was in a dedicated storage box measuring 59cm x 63cm x 42cm … and total weight was 24 Kilos. This link provides interesting information regarding the S1 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/13077-leica-s1-digital-camera-1997-a.html Silverfast (Lasersoft GmbH) still offer software and software support for the S1 with Windows XP and Windows 2000 ie … SilverFast for Leica S1 High Speed :: LaserSoft Imaging … And this link provides additional information information about Silverfast’s S1 Scanning Software differenc between lasersoft silverfast ai & silverfast DCVLT : About SilverFast … I had an S1 High Speed but sold it because it was not compatible with my iMac or my PC ... the S1 requires a computer with an SCSI interface. Your best bet for acquiring the additional items for your camera is to try and source a complete outfit with non-operational camera but the total production for all types of S1 was TTBOMK less than 200 . However, I have seen at least three offered on Ebay over the last three years.
