andybarton Posted February 7, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted February 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Possibly... Â I just cannot turn off Manul Focus Lock, without resorting to setting everything back to "Factory Settings" Â Unless I have missed something obvious. Â It would appear that holding down the delete/focus button locks it, but holding it down again, doesn't unlock it. Â Any ideas, before I email Leica CS? (Or even resort to reading the manual later...)
Advertisement Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Within half an hour of using an X1 for the first time, I have found a firmware bug. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nippa Posted February 7, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted February 7, 2012 Sorry it doesn't help you but it works perfectly on my X1. Holdng the Delete/Focus button for about 2 seconds starts the lock and a similar time releases it. Â Have you tried re-installing firmware 2 yet? andybarton Posted February 7, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted February 7, 2012 Thanks. Not yet - this was its first trip out.
wda Posted February 7, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted February 7, 2012 Andy, I have just checked mine (Firmware 2 installed). After locking focus you see the lock symbol and the confirmation message disappears. I powered off and on again; focus still locked. I pressed the Delete/Focus button for about two seconds to unlock. There is no on-screen confirmation but manual focus works normally and is not locked. Before the firmware update, locking was not retained after powering off. It is a most useful improvement. Â Is your X1 a 'loaner' or a 'keeper', subject to correct functioning?
andybarton Posted February 7, 2012 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 7, 2012 It's supposed to be a "keeper" Â Thanks for the advice. It might be on its way back.
wda Posted February 7, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted February 7, 2012 For a direct replacement, I hope. There should be plenty of new stock.
jippiejee Posted February 7, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted February 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Weird, mine just unlocks by pressing the delete/focus button. I'd re-install the firmware first before returning it.
andybarton Posted February 7, 2012 Author Share #8 Â Posted February 7, 2012 I don't know what I've done, but just now, the lock wouldn't come off (as at lunchtime). Now it does. Some sort of user-error, no doubt. It seemed to unlock when I was pointing at a position that was well out of coucs, compared to the locked position, if that makes sense. Â Thanks for the tips, guys, I will reinstall FW 2.0 this evening and keep my eye on it.
wda Posted February 10, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted February 10, 2012 Have you solved the problem, Andy, after reinstalling Firmware 2?

wda Posted February 13, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted February 13, 2012 This looks like a glitch, Andy. Back to the dealer for a 1:1 exchange? It is too new to waste precious time recycling to Solms.
nickma Posted February 13, 2012 Share #14 Â Posted February 13, 2012 According to the date stamp of Andy's original post the unit is a week old. Â I think it is a simple matter of rejecting the unit as not as described. You are using the item for the purpose for which it was intended and it does not adequately fulfil that purpose (is not of satisfactory quality). Â Under the UK Sale of Goods Act your contract is with the seller/ retailer and they have an obligation to put the matter right, within a reasonable window post purchase, without palming the matter off in deferring responsibility to manufacturer warranties. Â Your Statutory Rights under the Sale of Goods Act take precedence over and above any warranty or guarantee you may have with either the retailer or manufacturer. Â ...assuming it was bought as brand new.
