Okay, each week that goes by puts me closer to getting the X1. The only thing is I will miss the shallow DOF that is so nice with the M3 and R4. But, I would like to see how YOU have done with producing OOF areas and nice bokeh.

I am really looking forward to a pair of small Leicas...the IIIF and an X1!:)

I spent weeks researching this camera before I bought one. i really recommend searching on Flickr for X1 images. There's an X1 "group" on there too. There are some incredible examples of what can be done with that camera on there and many of the images I found convinced/helped me make the decision to buy.

Robert, Paul...thanks for the information! I will do my research on Flickr as suggested and, Robert, those are excellent images at low speeds!

Wondering what a little reflector or such would do with isolating certain subjects?

These are very helpful!:)

I had a look at those in the past, but couldn't find many shallow DOF photos, and already thought it's not really possible (i.e. blurred out background only with very close subjects because the lens is wide-angle) so I am really happy that this thread was started.

You are correct, you need something very close (in focus or out of focus) otherwise you do not manage to have a focus/out of focus play. This is the characteristic of the 36 mm eq lens.

In order to avoid a separate thread, can anyone tell me what the Leica warranty is for a new X1 and what kind of extended warranty is available?:)

I am thinking of either Tamarkin, B&H or Pop Flash for purchasing a new X1.

Hey Bill, do you do any smoothing or post processing work for the dog's nose and face image to appear free of noise? As soon as I go to ISO 1600 or beyond I start to get noise. It would be nice to know what you do to produce that sort of image at ISO 3200. It's really hard to evaluate images online of course.. Many thanks - Nick

Here is a 930 x 640 pixel crop without NR and with medium colour and luminance NR applied by Lightroom. Hope this helps.
