ricardojh Posted January 28, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all. I have had my current X1 for 7 months, use it most days and like it. On a recent trip to New York, and sporadically in the past at home, when attempting to use the menu dial and associated buttons, it advances at will, forward, back and forth, and with just the slightest touch. Before I send it to New Jersey, I thought I would ask if anyone has had similar problems. Thanks. Rich
Advertisement Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Hi ricardojh, Take a look here Spastic Menu Dial. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
paulpp Posted January 28, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Never had that problem - sorry so can't help. Not sure I like the use of "Spastic" - considered very offensive in the UK.
wda Posted January 28, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 28, 2012 I occasionally get these symptoms and really should send it for correction. Just don't like being without it!

SproetS Posted January 30, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted January 30, 2012 Yep, my X1 also has got a Spastic Menu Dial. I've learned to live with it.
nippa Posted January 31, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted January 31, 2012 It's a case of " me too" from new. Looks like it's a feature
pvak Posted January 31, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted January 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes my X1 also developed the "spasticity" of the menu dial about 6 months after I got it. I have learned to live with it as it happens very infrequently and can usually correct it by jogging the menu wheel back and forth a couple of times. I am now past the warranty period and I just don't feel like sending in the camera for a probable costly repair but above all, I just don't want to be without the camera for an extended period. thomsva Posted February 2, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted February 2, 2012 I have this very annoying "feature" too. But I will not go trough the trouble of sending it for repair.
ricardojh Posted February 2, 2012 Author Share #9 Â Posted February 2, 2012 Thanks so much everyone for all the replies. I'm feeling the same way that most of you are. I don't want to go through the hassle and expense of mailing the X1 away. My only concern is that it doesn't lead to a complete "sorry I don't work anymore" malfunction. ricardojh Posted March 5, 2012 Author Share #11 Â Posted March 5, 2012 I'm going to be traveling soon and I want to try an avoid any issues with my camera, so I sent it in to Leica New Jersey for a complete check up. I told them about the spasms my dial has been having. I already miss the camera, but hopefully they will make the corrections. I will keep this forum informed. HiltonJoy Posted March 8, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted March 8, 2012 It's not an issue for my X1, but as pvac mentioned, it may be due to the large circular wheel not locating in a detent properly. Just joggle the wheel until you feel it locate a notch. Probably due to an electronic connection or such. jm2cw Enjoy the travel.
Steve Lane Posted March 8, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted March 8, 2012 Mine has done this twice in the four months I have owned it. I just switched it off and on again and it went away. Haven't had an instance in the last few weeks, but I take on board the comments about the wheel not locating in one if the indents properly. I will take a closer look at this if the problem happens again.
ricardojh Posted March 16, 2012 Author Share #14 Â Posted March 16, 2012 Update: My X1 was returned from New Jersey after 2+ weeks (not bad). BUT after just a few shots, the problem returned. It's now back in Allendale for a second try. Although they seem very nice there, I have not been impressed with their work. This is the second time they haves returned a camera without repair. Last summer, I had the issue with dust on the sensor. It came back in the same condition and they ultimately replaced the camera.
