What filters to order ?

Recommended Posts

I just purchased an M8 and 3 lens. I have heard that Leica is offering free filters. For general outdoor photography what type of filters do you suggest I order?

With the so-called "magenta" problem, what filter is recommended?

Thanks

The free offer is for IR cut filters only. I recommend you order filters to fit your lenses...

You have three lenses and Leica is offering two complimentary IR-cut filters. So, be smart and order the two more expensive that will fit your lenses from Leica. Generally, the bigger, the more expensive. So if you have, say one 39, one 43 and 46 diam. lens, get the 43 and 46 from Leica, and buy the 39. Of course you don't need one filter per lens, but I guess it's less trouble to swap filters as little as possible.

I second the strategy... Let Leica give you the more expensive filters. But you whould also consider eventually purchasing POARIZER filters as well for landscape photography. They must be palced OVER the UV/IR filter as polars can increase the actual amount fo IR light. Nevertheless, they are essential. Finally, ALL filters should have MRC (multi-resistant coating) as they not only protect the filter from scatches but also markedly decrease reflection andhence loss of light. B+H and Heliopan are the best IMHO.:)
