Hi chaps, there seems to be some confusion about pricing when looking on ebay and classifieds. Anyone know what a realistic price is for a used 35mm summilux (the previous version before the current new-ish floating element version).

thanks

In my experience, the typical low prices for sold items is $2000 to $3000 for version 2 (still pre-asph). Condition - I dunno but would guess in good shape. The original lens shades go for as much as $150. Don't buy one. There is a Chinese copy that can be made to work.

Crazy, eh? Look at the 75mm Summilux for another lens going ballistic. :(

You ain't kidding! Seems everyone expects to get FLE-version prices for their older stuff. I don't suppose I need to tell anyone that eBay isn't really the best place to buy lenses though.

I wouldn't pay more than $4k or so for the last, pre-FLE version. And that for a clean one, preferably 6-bit coded.

As long as people keep paying these prices - the madness won't stop. ;)

Actual selling prices ("Completed Listings" with a finalized sale) for the previous version 35 Summilux ASPH on der Bay:

Complete (box, caps, and shade, but not necessarily 6-bit coded) - about $4100-4300

Lens only (not 6-bit): $3,200 (actually 2,062 pounds)

BTW, completed listings also show an "Aspherical" (the rare one) sold for $7,000.

My figures were based upon pre-asph 35mm Summilux which were half of your figures. Maybe I misunderstood the OP's requisites - but no way are the pre-asph's selling for that much.

Who needs a asph anyway if he's not a corner-to-corner compulsive - and even then the differences are disputable. Well, so all comparisons are disputable, but show me an image spoiled by the differences.

I told ya, I told ya.

In my first post after seeing the M9 on 09/09/09, I said the 75 'lux would become "gold-plated unobtainium."

The current version is ASPH and FLE (floating element)

The previous version would thus be the ASPH (no floating element) made 1993-2010

Before that was the short-lived, rare Aspherical (two aspheric surfaces)

The pre-asph lens (1961-199something) is thus the previous-previous-previous version to today's lens.

Well, that's what I interpreted the OP's requisites to be. So shoot me. He can clear it up.
