Samuelson Posted January 15, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, Â I must admit that I'm no real photo-enthusiast, just occassional people-shots. Nevertheless since yesterday I proudly own a black X1 with the nice Ser.Nr.: 03838383. It's my first "real" Leica, just had the D-Lux 3 so far. Â After having read all the critics about the cam I had the least expectations just to find out that, so far (not even 1 day through...), I'm absolutely impressed in every way. It feels fantastic in my hands, nicely build and solid, even the dials feel nice, the leather bag fits perfectly and AF is fast at good light. Even in very low light situations taking pics of my black Cocker Spaniel (which is my benchmark test for AF) the AF was slow but absolutely reliable. My old, trusty Canon 40D often enough failed in that situation... No need to tell you about the picture quality, that's the real strengh of that nice little cam. Â Overall I'm kind of blown away of this little beauty. I'm starting to feel a bit of that magic thing I've sometimes came across when reading about and viewing pictures of the Red Dot Photographers... Greetings Samuelson

Paul J Posted January 15, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted January 15, 2012 Hi Samuelson, Â Congrats on the new purchase. I have a new one since Xmas too. It's a mind blowingly capable little thing isn't it? It has me excited about taking pictures again and I find myself wanting to take pictures just for the sake of it with this little camera. Â My experience has been nothing but positive. It makes me wonder if the people giving bad reviews even own the camera. Sure, it has it's quirks but once you know it's boundaries and figure out it's work arounds, as many are discussed on this forum, all is OK. I have owned a couple m4/3 systems and other compacts and well, there is no going back now. I have finally have what I've been searching for, for a long time. SLR quality in a compact. Â Enjoy using the new camera.
Samuelson Posted January 15, 2012 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks for the welcome! Â It's like Paul J says: you just want to take pictures with it. Â The X1 has something that lets you forget its minor flaws. There's more to it than technical specs. It's something like the difference of wearing purely functional clothing the look of which you don't particularly like and wearing your favourite clothing in which you feel just great. It has some effect on you and your surroundings... Â As for the serial number, it indeed was some kind of coincidence. Â The X1 was in stock in the onlineshop of my Leica dealer. It was an hour's drive to the shop with the car and when I was almost there I got a call from the Leica dealer regarding my order. I don't even know what she really wanted to tell me, because I interrupted her telling her that I was almost there already and asking if she had one in stock. After a short pause she replied in some low voice "Yes, we have one here." Â In the shop she told me, that the Shop owner actually didn't want to sell this one...
