Walt Calahan Posted January 10, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 10, 2012 Sure looks like one. Must have good eating with the pigeons. Can't tell for sure, but it has the look of a Red-tailed Hawk. Pretty common on the east coast.
leicanut2 Posted January 10, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 10, 2012 Could be a Falcon, how big was it? I had a red tail hawk in my little city yard this morning he tried to get a sparrow but missed. Hawks are huge compared to a falcon. Â Jan
pauledell Posted January 10, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted January 10, 2012 Yes Bill, it looks like a hawk. We had one just like yours perched on one of our trees. A nice shot. Â Paul

wildlightphoto Posted January 13, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted January 13, 2012 Do They eat squirrels? Â Red-tailed Hawks will eat mostly rodents on the ground, such as mice, rats, gophers and ground squirrels but they wouldn't pass up a pigeon, rabbit or snake if the meal presented itself. leicanut2 Posted January 13, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted January 13, 2012 Jan, It looked large to me. About 16" tall. Â Hawk, When I was a kid , HA million years ago we never saw hawks, falcons, owls, ducks or woodpeckers but now there all around even deer. I put a small gold fish pond around 10 ft by 5 ft with a water fall in my little 40 foot wide city yard and all kinds of animals show up to drink or hunt. Saw a large owl on the phone pole a few times around 2am when I was letting my dog out. Really cool for living in the city, there is a metro park close where the deer are coming from. Â Don't you wish you could get a maybe 200mm on the m9 without using a viso. Your hawk would have filled the frame. Still a cool picture the statue makes it very interesting.
