Ah, so that was what it was! It looked easy to put a 28.000 tonner up to the pier. I can do that!

Singapore is not described in few words. Here is an overview of the new Marina Bay Sands. We made an unplanned stay here for a few nights. Simply because we got the fair so cheap. - Excluding breakfast, - but that is just an advantage in a gourmet metropolis as Singapore. Don't waste a good appetite on a continental breakfast in Singapore!

A new day for the Singapore's financial district. This is where Nick Leeson lost 827 million £ (1,4 billion US$) and sank the old Barings Bank. Leeson was sentenced to 6 years prison which he spent at Singapore's Changi. The sentensing mentioned that a lot of other people should have been in the dock too. Is that why Leeson was never tried in Britain..?

This was our second stay at Marina Bay Sands. Hotel in Singapore | Official Site Marina Bay Sands Singapore | Luxury Hotel Casino We found it too expensive the first time. But regardless of all it's vulgarity, the top floor pool is amazing.! You get this hairy feeling you shall fall off the edge. It's view over Singapore is spectacular. We just had to try it once more.

But you want fall off. More frightening was the thunderstorm in the vicinity. Every now and then they would clear the whole pool area for guests because of the danger of lightning.

The view the other way, out at sea. We thought we might see Black Watch leave for the next port of call in Vietnam and Hong Kong, but she left late at night. Here the world's shipping fleet is waiting for better times.

Oh, I almost forgot: The most hip place to be in the Far East on Saturday night, either you are a gambler from Macao or a sheep farmer from Australia: The Marina Bay pool. With thundering disco music. Dress code? Informal. A wet swim suit will do.

Then we flew on to the next port of call: Tioman Island, Malaysia. The landing at this tiny airport, built by the Japanese during WII, is a hairy affair. When we have had a successful landing at Tioman Island's Airport we know that this will be a happy holiday!

Check up these examples on youtube:

Just like landing in a drawer.

(This picture is from the take off when going home, though. I was sitting on the wrong side when going in)

Keep 'em coming Olsen, I for one am enjoying this thread. Partly as we are off to Europe later this year, but also because it is a wonderful look at your holiday.

The pictures, they were all with what camera/lens?

I suspect you are headed home soon, a shame.

Gary,

My M9 was the only camera I brought with me. I was totally dependent on that. It worked fine! I had the following lenses: 35 mm 2,0 Cron, WATE and a Voigtländer 50 mm 2,5. Some of the pictures are cropped to make room for leveling of the horizon etc. I even brought with me the Frankenfinder. Which I never used. Which I regret.

Where in Europe do you plan to go? Scandinavia?

Thank you Olsen.

It is always nice to see what others are carting around with them on holiday. We did Europe (London/Paris/Venice/Tuscany/Rome/Provence) in 2007, and are back to redo Paris, a cruise out of Venice, then Florence and Rome. Last time I took a Canon 20D and 17-40L, and shot heaps. Got some nice memories. I figure this time to have the wife shoot the memories with something like a D-Lux 5 (any better suggestions out there??), and I can play with the M9 and maybe an M6 (B&W) for the fun shots. Lenses I have are the 50 Summilux, a CV35/1.4, a 28/2.8 Elmarit, and a CV15/4.5.

Trip is in August/September, so a fair bit of time for me to chop and change equipment.

Gary,

Make it simple!

I would have brought with me both the Leica lenses. They are a natural extension of each other. They make life easier since they will be automatically recognized by the camera. I used my 15 mm CV a lot with my M8, with which is what perfect. But it does not work so well with the M9 due to the Italian Flag thing. If you have found a way to solve that, I would have brought with with me the CV15 too.
