We said goodbye to our friends among the Berjaya Beach Resort staff. The hotel manager invited us for dinner the last evening. (How can we say; 'no, we are going to Costa del Sol next year..')

Berjayas excellent chef (those soups!), restaurant manager and one of our favourite waiters join up for a farewell picture at the last (latest, really) breakfast. (It's me in the middle of the picture, so I can't be held responsible for the focusing).

We say farewell to the women. Not only do we know them. We know their children and husbands too. It's like saying farewell to our family....

  • 2 weeks later...

I was not quite finished with this blog. But I have had this shoulder pain the last few weeks. Bursite, or something. Damned painful. To what I know, the only thing that helps is to eat painkillers.

We were about leaving Tioman Island. A last view over the beach at low tide on this hot day.

We packed our bags and met up at the Tioman Airport only to find out that we had booked tickets for the wrong day. But Berjaya Air, we know many of their staff since many years back, managed to squeeze us into the last vacant seats. And off we went to Singapore again. A last view of 'one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Through a soddy plexiglas window.

If you think Malaysia is all jungles, think again. It is a eternal palm oil plantation with dots of National Parks here and there that regularly are plundered for forest rarities. A tragedy. No less.

After about 45 minutes we zoomed in over Changi Airport, Singapore, one of the busiest in the world.

On the return leg we stayed only one night in Singapore. Which is all too little. But we had now been on holiday for 6 weeks. We had to go home to our respective jobs. Since I have this Hilton Honors card we either stay at Singapore Hilton or Conrad Hotel. Conrad Singapore had the cheapest fare this time: Conrad Singapore

Here I have had to cheat a little.

Since we stayed only one night at Conrad Hotel in Singapore this time, it was just a few pictures I managed to take of the hotel etc. But it so happens that when I bought my M8 back in 2007 we also stay at Conrad. So, here is some of the first pictures I took with my brand new M8 + WATE back in April 2008. The shopping bag from Cathay Photo and Leica boxes can be seen strewn around.

A little more cheating with M8 pictures from our 2007 Singapore tour. Like our visit to Banana Leaf where Indian food i served on banana leaves. Or was. Today food is served on plates. 'And some Little India scenes.

The view from the hotel room was towards the Fointain of Wealth surounded by the Suntek City Towers. - If I frankly described my opinion on Singapore's news architecture I risk not getting my visa renewed... No joke!

Another black hole in my travel log is pictures from our departure from Singapore, the flight etc. I had to pack down my photo gear. We were loaded up with four big suitcases weighing up to 23 kg each - plus hand luggage. - I had to make compromises. My wife said.

Flying home from Singapore to Oslo (via Helsinki, this time) is a 14 - 18 hours, depending on route, of physical & psychical strain. On tourist class, mind you. I can't understand how people my age get to Australia -and back. I usually dope myself (with sleeping pills that I have inherited from my mother) - to no effect. I land in Europe feeling like a curled up newspaper - with a headache.

Landing at Vantaa Airport outside Helsinki was a shock. We came back precisely at the moment when the winter in Scandinavia was at it's worse. Particularly so for Finland which has had a very hard winter this year with a lot of snow. Gone were the sounds of exotic birds and insects. Only a cold wind whistling around the corners and the sound of shoes crushing cold snow. The flare come natural when you shoot through a window 7 o'clock in the morning at Vantaa airport at winter time....

When arriving in Helsinki I knew that I would stay home in Oslo for only a week before going back to Helsinki on an important business trip. Winters in Helsinki is usually colder and more snowy than in Oslo. While we have colder and wetter summer.

Here a look out to the rental car park. i parked my rented car here last time in late November 2011. Then it was no snow,,,,
