stevo Posted January 4, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) A couple months back i got my hands on a 50mm lux to replace my 50mm zeiss planar (good move!) and i love the selective focus ability on the lux so much i was thinking of trading in my 35mm cron for a 35mm lux... However, I have heard (read on the web) lots of folk seem to think the 35mm cron is better than the 35mm lux in terms of contrast etc. I tend to shoot wide open anyhow and only maybe stop down to 4 at the most. What do you think? 35mm Cron or Lux?

Shade Posted January 4, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2012 Well it really depends, the 35 Lux ASPH FLE is probably the best 35mm ever made. And I'm not sure which 35 Lux you're referring too. And I'm not sure which cron you have as well. If you're comparing the Cron to a previous version of Lux, yes the cron has slightly better sharpness and contrast overall. But I think it's negligible. However, the older 35 Lux versions are reported to be soft wide open, so you might want to consider that if you're a sharpness kinda guy. IMHO, the 35 Lux is a beauty, but you won't get that much of "selective focus" you mentioned while you use your 50. I would stay with the cron instead and use the 35 for street and group shots. I have my 50 all the time, and I don't know when I last used my 35...
Sp12 Posted January 4, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2012 Sharper than the FLE, cheaper than the FLE, wider aperture than the FLE.
darylgo Posted January 9, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2012 Sharper than the FLE, cheaper than the FLE, wider aperture than the FLE. +1 , that it's worth considering. Contrast and sharpness can be enhanced post process, selective focus would require more effort. I would get the look of selective focus primarily and then improve technique for required quality, relying on post process to finish the task when necessary.
