dotandcom Posted February 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I could kick myself for not having drawn attention to this before, but if anyone can make it to Banbury (Oxfordshire, UK) between now and 4 March, Banbury Museum (Castle Quay) is holding a major retrospective exhibition by the landscape photographer Michael Kenna. He grew up in Banbury, though he now lives in Portland (Oregon, USA). Kenna's work is collected in a big way by Elton John, but don't let that put you off. Here is a brief extract from an interview in the Oxford Times: ''I often think of my work as a visual haiku. It is an attempt to evoke and suggest through as few elements as possible rather than describe with tremendous detail. Most intriguing of all is the possibility to photograph what is impossible for the human eye to see - cumulative time.' Time and light provide the subtle chemistry for his poetic images' : Visual Haiku (from The Oxford Times) I almost always miss exhibitions on my doorstep (am I the only one who does that?), but not this one: I shall pay a visit this weekend. Those I know who have been are very enthusiastic. I've no idea what equipment he uses, but I presume that we all draw inspiration from a top-class image maker irrespective of gear. All the best, Chris
Advertisement Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hi dotandcom, Take a look here Michael Kenna exhibition, Banbury. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TimF Posted February 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2007 Indeed. Michael is one of my favourite landscape togs (not a field I'm overly excited by normally). Sadly I can't get there, so will have to content myself by looking at the couple of his books on my shelves. He uses a Hasselblad I believe, FWIW as you rightly say.
