yangky5 Posted December 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm not a professional photographer but my husband gave me an M7 as a gift last year. I wasn't having any problems with it until February when all of a sudden the shutter/shutter release just jammed. I sent it to Leica service and they changed the shutter curtain, but when I got it back, the problem just started again. At first, if I shot one or two on manual speeds (125 or 60), I could then set it to the automatic speeds and it would work fine. Now I can only use it on manual speeds even if I'm sure the battery is working because the exposure meter that lights up on the viewfinder is working. Has anyone had this problem before? I just wanted to do a bit of research because this is my first film camera, and it might help if I send it to the service center with more of an idea of what's going on. Keith (M) Posted December 25, 2011 Share #2 Posted December 25, 2011 Hopefully one or more the forum's resident experts will be along shortly... From your description of the camera only functioning with the two mechanical shutter speeds, it points to failure of the electro-magnet or the power supply to it. Where did you send the camera after the first failure - Solms? My 10 month old M7 had total power failure recently and Solms seem to have fixed it (only had the time to put one roll through it since it's return). Good luck with getting yours repaired. andybarton Posted December 25, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 25, 2011 Welcome to the Forum. When you say that you can only use manual speeds, do you mean ONLY 60/125th? Or, can you shoot at, say, 500th too? I assume that the batteries are very fresh and that the contacts in the battery chamber are clean? It does sound as if it will need returning to Solms, I'm afraid.
fotohuis Posted December 25, 2011 Share #4 Posted December 25, 2011 If you have not an electronic failure the most common problem with the M7 when working only in the manual shutter times: 1/60S and 125S it's a battery related problem. Put 2x CR1/3N 3V Lithium fresh batteries inside the camera and check the battery contacs too. In case of emergency you can also use 4x 1,5V AG13 Alkaline batteries.
