However I am aware of two reviews that show it's performance is FAR behind the Olympus system.  EDIT: here is a review.  Battle of DSLR sensor dust busters: News Discussion Forum: Digital Photography Review      As far as the high ISO, there is a new NR setting in the Custom functions.  Hey, is mirror lockup buried in here too still?    I used a 400D for a while and its autocleaning sensor worked quite well indeed.  Agreed, this is why the 1DIII has 10.1 Mp, which equals to a 16.5 Mp full frame = same 1DsII pixel density, but at 10 fps. Nice for sport and wildlife photography.   Why ? Canon is usually quite good at high ISOs.   I agree, the wedding image taken with the 35L has no fine detail also... and knowing how the 35/1.4L performs at f/2.8 (at least on my old 1Ds), there's clearly something wrong with these samples, at least I hope for Canon... Â I'm not saying that they would've done this on purpose, but I'd be very interested to find out if this new camera will be better or worse than the 5D or the full-framed 1DsII with regards to using adapted R lenses. Â And besides, the 1DIII will allow Live View with its mirror locked up. So one could use ANY R lens in Live View. The only other camera that can do that is the Digilux 3, albeit with a 2X focal length factor and probably noisy high ISO speeds. Â And I haven't even thought about the WiFi possibilities yet! Â This Canon announcement comes a week after Leica runs out of DMRs with no replacement digital R in sight. Even though I'm sure the hopefully upcoming R10 and/or DMR2 will be quite awesome and most definitely on my purchasing list, it is nice to know my trusty R lenses will have some digital options, no matter what Leica's digital R plans may be. Â Depending on what the R10 will be like, if Canon comes out with a 1DsIII with Live View, then I think I may add a Canon body to my R system. Most of you are quite jumpy when someone says something bad about the M8. ...............  If the IQ of this camera turns out to be less than great and some colours seem to be way off or there's some strange form of cyan vignetting in the corners or the first 1500 need to go back to Japan or someones camera, like so many others before him, suffers from a sudden death just when Christian Albers crosses the line in his first F1 Grand Prix victory, we can start putting it down.  Love this Hans. I would not even attempt it. Or rather I would but fail. But. The M8 would have handled the DR of the splashing water better, with the blown out highlight in it. And I don't think there is any doubt left about the colour handling by the M8 with an IR filter on - or even without one in this case with proper C1 profiles, as I presume the dog is not made of synthetic material. Â How would improved DR improve that shot? Would anybody notice? Are we dwelling too much on technical excellence? Â Concerning canine shots with a rangefinder, Elliot Erwitt has plenty of dog shots - too many in fact, that he has a whole book on them In some of the more famous ones, the dogs are in various stages of movement / flight (!) that I would have thought it was impossible to achieve with a M3 + 50 f1.4, but EE did it! Even if some of them might not be achieved with rangefinders, they were taken in the late 60s where AF exists only in the imagination. Â The shots are grainy, some are not exactly in focus, and some are *gasp* soft when blown up (as seen in his new book Personal Best), some have blocked shadows, but those are still great pictures! Â Effective or not, the 63 page white paper makes it clear it's a different system from the one found in the 400D. Does it produce sharper images than the 1D2N? Does it have more dynamic range than the 5D and 1Ds2? How are the high ISO settings? How are the colours? How are the skin tones? Â There are sample images on dpreview. Look at the portrait! You don't believe your eyes, when you see such a bad quality!!! Leica prices are fairly fixed though... Â Considering there's no extra cost for lens coding and no need to spend on IR block filters, the difference is actually a lot more than that! So nobody here really knows how well it performs until the new body is in the hands of users.  that would have to be true if it works because the one on 400D doesnt on the information provided here, the only working dustbuster is from Oly on 4/3 which transcends to D3 L1 etc  read about it here Sommaire The summary says, "zero points for the EOS 400D, hardly better for Pentax and Sony." mjh Posted February 23, 2007 Share #93  Posted February 23, 2007 14 bit raw is interesting, but I would not be surprised if the the compressed raw file coming off the 16bit ADC in your M8s has better tonality and color depth.The 1D Mark III's ADC will most likely be 16 bit, too. The raw format of the M8 is based on 14 bit data compressed to 8 bits, whereas the Canon stores uncompressed 14 bit data. While the difference may not amount to much in practice, in the theory at least, the 1D Mark III has the edge. I suspect the higher ISO's will have a substantial amount of noise reduction applied, ala the D2X.
