Hi from France

I'm a new user of X1 after years using Nikon DSLRs.

I've bought the hand grip.

And now I hesitate to add thumbs up.

Do you think that thumbs up is really useful even though I already have the hand grip?

Thank you

I dont have the thumbs up yet.

The hand grip is very useful for me: I have long and thin fingers. Without that hand grip the X1 slip out of my hands (especially in vertical position)

If I buy a TU I'll try without hand grip.

I've had the hand grip, thumbs up and the external view finder.

I'm selling both the viewfinder and the grip, asI feel it goes against the compact nature of the camera. I've had the grip and viewfinder for well over six months - since I stopped using them I haven't found me wanting to put them back on.

The Thumbs Up is definitely worth keeping though - just my opinion though - I think its a personal thing.

Yes, I didn't find it that useful really.

That reminds me to ask my wife to take a picture of myself in the "Thumbs up and hand grip" position ... Maybe this weekend, it is almost Christmas with some downtime.

It works --- thumbs up, hands low, elbows tucked in -- for a quite reliable 1/30 and often less down to 1/10

i had the TU but it damaged the upper plate of my X1.

Indeed this plate is very thin and the fixture to the main body is weak.

TU in the flash socket transfers too much stress especially when the X1 is used in rough conditions, which is my case (hiking).

Hand grip is mandatory for me as I have large hands...

My two cents.

What do you think if only the thumbs up is used? I really don't like the grip, it makes the X1 not compact..

i have had teh thumbs up for about a year now- it is worth every penny makes the camera very easy to handle and in combination with a wrist strap makes it very portable.

I have absolutely no experience with the hand grip so i cannot comment on that.

A picture would be great, thank you.

I've read others messages saying that TU helps at low speed.

This point is very interesting for me.
