egibaud Posted February 21, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am wondering if I sould buy an SF24 Flash. Â Please help me decide, it is true that it is not possible to rotate it in any way, but on the other hand it seems quite small. Â I've read several thread about other Metz flash but not really any pro / cons discution. Â Thanks for your help. Â Eric
barjohn Posted February 22, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 22, 2007 I purchased one and I like it because it is small. Further I purchased the Nikon SC-17 cable so I can use it off of the shoe and have full TTL functionality but point it in any direction. It is good to around 81' at ISO 1250 and f2 in manual mode. I haven't really tried it in full TTL mode for max range and power.
ho_co Posted February 22, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 22, 2007 Eric-- You and John have delineated the matter perfectly. The Metz units with tilt and swivel are quite large, so that leaves the SF-24 for convenience. Of course, the Metz units are also more powerful. Â If you can do with a unit that doesn't share M8 automation, there may be some still around. I think Sean Reid uses an old Vivitar 285, for example. It's bigger than the SF-24 but smaller than the Metz units. Â It all comes down to your needs, and for me the SF-24 wins for its convenience. Â BTW--The Nikon SC-17 cable John mentioned has been replaced by a slightly redesigned model SC-28. Â --HC
