amyukie Posted January 13, 2012 Author Share #22 Posted January 13, 2012 Guys, Im getting more and more confused about this digital world. New Fuji cameras were announced last week and I believe Leica, Ricoh, Panasonic are ready to introduce their new cameras this year.. And since digital sensors are still far from perfect, I took some advice and acquired this, I still believe X1 is the best CMOS sensor camera in the market , but the rapid growth of technology makes me feel insecure. Now its time to go back to where it all began, film. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! stefano60 Posted January 14, 2012 Share #23 Posted January 14, 2012 1. the answer to your original question, to me, is a no brainer: get a used one and save yourself a bundle of $$, and if/when you want to sell it you will lose almost nothing (ebay is ok, if you buy from someone with a solid feedback record) 2. try not to get dragged into the insanity of chasing after all new cameras coming out on a regular basis (or even being announced!), it is a slippery slope that will keep you either waiting for THE best one (which will never come), or switching frantically from one to the next (expensive and vastly useless proposition ... ask me how i know). 3. as much as i LOVE film, my film cameras have been sitting for a while now; once in a blue moon, i get the urge to take them out for a spin, but then the practical aspects take over (unless you can/will do your own developing), and i suspect the same would happen to you .... my personal advise would be to get the X1, it is a phenomenal little camera, enjoy it as much as you can, learn from/with it and shoot a lot. down the road, you can always 'upgrade' and/or add a film camera. my 2 cents .... Paul J Posted January 15, 2012 Share #24 Posted January 15, 2012 Decisions like these are really tricky and I appreciate what you are going through! Personally I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the X1. I have just bought one and have found what I have always been looking for. The GXR certainly is an attractive package but I never found images that could compare in terms of quality with the X1, by a long shot. I would also personally recommend shopping around and buying new. I found one a couple hundred cheaper than a Leica dealer at a large camera gear chain. The extra time it takes to save will be long forgotten when you have the camera and there's nothing like a new one. There's also the peace of mind of it being fully under warranty. In the UK, at least, you also get Leica Passport which even covers you for accidental damage for the first year. You could always wait till end of feb to see if Leica have anything to new to unveil at Photokina but otherwise just do it, you really won't be disappointed!
