teehas53 Posted February 21, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not that this means much in the end, but I thought I report it to the general knowledge base. My 50/1.5 CV Nokton (in a CV LTM/M adaptor) apparently triggers the coding sensors on my M8. The metadata reads: "50mm (f1)" Â I looked at the code chart and found it interesting that the Noctilux code contains mainly black bars, together, at the end of the pattern. I would have assumed the non-hand-coded mount would be reflective, and look more "white" to the sensors. This adaptor does have the cutouts talked about in other threads, so maybe it's a shadow thing... Â Tom
carstenw Posted February 21, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 21, 2007 It may be that this is not desirable, since the Noctilux has stronger vignetting wide open than other 50mm lenses.
dhoelscher Posted February 21, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 21, 2007 The only point that I'd mention is that with firmware 1.09, the maximum aperture in the EXIF sometimes just defaults to 1.0 ... the camera thinks it has a 50mm lens all right, but it doesn't necessarily mean the Noctilux. Â My camera says that my brand new Leica elmarit 28mm f/2.8 lens has a maximum aperture of 1.0 in the EXIF ....

teehas53 Posted February 21, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Interesting. All my coded Leicas (24/2.8, 28/2, 75/2, 90/2.8) show the correct focal length and maximum aperture. None of my Zeiss or CV glass (in adaptors, or the 40/1.4 Nokton, which is M-mount) show any lens metadata at all (except the 50mm Nokton.) And some of these do trigger the correct framelines. Â Since we now know the camera looks for both codes and which framelines are triggered by the lens mount, I assume it thinks I have one of the Leica 50s mounted. Might not be the Nocti - no way to tell for sure, I guess. Â Carsten's point is also interesting. I haven't done any serious testing, but I don't see any obvious "reverse vignetting," as you might expect if the files were being over-corrected. Or maybe the correction lessens at somewhat smaller apertures. I rarely shoot with the Nokton wide open - most often 2.8 ~ 5.6. Â Tom
