Anyway, the lens does exhibit some glow, in particular in the foreground out of focus areas. I assume this glow is an effect due to veiling glare from residual spherical aberration?  Here is my very first test shot with the 1. gen Summilux-M 50mm (on a Nex-5n), shows quite a lot of glow. Nomercyus Posted February 22, 2013 Share #23 Â Posted February 22, 2013 By the way, in their review of the first Summilux-M 50mm (amongst other 50mm lenses) LFI magazine has the following to say about "leica glow" and the 1st version of the Summilux: Â "The earliest Summilux illustrates nicely the classic Leica glow: Spherical aberration causes an aura at the edge of objects and a very flattering handling of details as well as the characteristic light boundary around circles of confusion." There may be missing or broken internal parts that are not available. Or something may simply need tightening. Â Have the seller repair it. Maybe he tried and it can not be done. Nomercyus Posted February 24, 2013 Share #29  Posted February 24, 2013 I have noticed that there seems to be some incorrect information floating around concerning the physical attributes of the first version versus the second version.  For example, it is stated in the below thread that the second version weighs more than the first version: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/85134-summilux-50-first-version-worth-buy-2.html#post894835  In my experience, it is the other way around (see pics, I have had both the first and second version in chorme... unfortunately, the second version went back as it had substantial asymmetric curvature of field, probably had a tilted lens element).  Whats more, the wiki pages for the respective lenses (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Summilux_%28I%29_f%3D_5_cm_1:1.4, http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/50mm_f/1.4_Summilux-M_II) currently indicate that the 2. version would be larger in size, which it is not.  The fist version is on the left side inte pics, and the second on the right. However, I think summilux 50mm v1 have distinctive tone when it open widely. It seems smooth and dreamy with unsharp, low contrast, and vignette. I think it is lovely lens than modern ones.
