I know that this has been already discussed, but...

Looking at the sample galleries of Fuji X10 on Dpreview, I cannot avoid to note that the Fuji X10 sensor is really good for its physical dimensions, and again I cannot avoid to note that it is the same size as the Digilux 2 sensor.

So it should be technically easy to refresh the Digilux 2 with that sensor and possibly a good OLED EVF, leaving the lens untouched (please...).

When Dr. Kaufmann are talking about a surprise that haven’t been discussed or discovered by Leica Rumors or the Leica Forum until now, I really hope that he's refferring to something like this. Yes, I know that a Digilux 2 replecement has been discussed on the forum, I simply hope that Dr. Kaufmann didn't read it so well :D

I'm not sure where the idea comes from that there is an open "bazaar" for sensors, where Leica can just walk in and pick a sensor from any other camera manufacturer. It's a bit like thinking "if Ford would only use Toyota (or BMW) engines...." or "If only I could get a Canon 5D with a Nikon D3s sensor."

So far as I know, the only CAMERA maker who regularly sells their sensors to other camera makers is Sony. There was a brief time in the infancy of digital when companies sold (or bought) sensors from/to other companies because they did not have their own sensor lines up and running, or to defray the startup costs of a sensor production line by selling excess production (Olympus and Panasonic, e.g.). Mostly, those days are over.

Keep in mind that the Digilux 2 was a Panasonic product, so to revive it, Dr. Kaufmann would have to persuade Panasonic to go hat in hand to direct competitior Fuji, and beg sensors from them. It isn't something that is up to Dr. K. alone, whether he pays attention to this forum or not. ;)

You want a Toyota engine? Buy a Toyota. You want a Fuji sensor? Buy a Fuji camera. (regarding which, see: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/210459-fuji-leica-love.html )

BTW - yes, the X10 sensor is miles ahead of the 2003 technology that went into the D2. The Fuji rep stopped by the shop with a demo unit Tuesday. ISO 800 on the X10 looked better than ISO 200 on the D2.

In fact the M9 has a Kodak sensor, the X1 has a Sony one (I think) and the smaller cameras use Panasonic sensors.....

And no, Sony is not the only camera and sensor maker who's selling their own sensors. Even Samsung is trying to do that.It makes sense that Canon does not try to sell sensors to Nikon, but Leica is a very small Company that makes niche products, I think that Fuji should not be worried in selling their sensors to Leica.

In any case, my post was not intended to teaching at Leica how to make its business. I was only saying that I would really like a product like the one I described in my post. I'm sorry if this bother you.
