Anyone here shooting through optical viewfinder?

I`m interested in two related questions.

How does someone should use use (a) the autofocus feature and (B) the manual mode (manual settings for shutter speed and aperture) with the lcd screen turned off? I get no way on this. It seems to me, well, a blind way.

ubajaro, Welcome to the Forum!

It will be worth your while searching in the X1 thread for 'viewfinder', or 'OVF' and you will find much discussion which will help you. I have used the OVF since new and have no difficulty with focusing. For closer subjects I find the LCD better because it eliminates parallax error thus easing composition in frame. But for most subjects I just imagine the point where the two imaginary diagonal lines would cross. Practice and you will find that in nearly every case, it works. If you do find a miss-focus, you are aware as soon as the preview shows on screen. Just re-shoot.

Welcome to the forum. I fully agree what David says. Some practice, imagine where the center of the VF is and it is done.

And for the second part of your question I think we need the LCD, set exposure and than switch it off. You need to do it just for the first photo of a series.
