tuanvo1982 Posted November 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I have bought a Tetenal C41 Kit 1L for developing my color film. Typically, I develop 1 rolls per time. My tank is 300ml. Do you have any suggestion about the ratio for mixing things or which temperature or how long I should processing. Another thing is that should I use Photo-Flo in final step to prevent hard water. Thanks

andybarton Posted November 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2011 Vo You must follow the instructions to the letter on the box of chemicals. That will tell you how to dilute and in what proportions etc. I have never developed C41, but when I do my E6, there is a special final stage that acts in lieu of Photoflo or similar. Don't use anything that didn't come in the box! Good luck!

ndjambrose Posted November 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 3, 2011 Use a water bath to keep chemicals and dev tank at 37 degrees. Follow instructions to letter (the Tetenal kits have excellent instructions). Do not use Photo-Flo. The last thing that should touch your film is the stablizer solution, included in the kit. Everyone is ahead of me on this. The only thing I could add is that I used the Tetenal kit per alternate instructions at 86f (30C) and it worked beautifully. Can we rotate all the time rather than invert every 30mins?

I used invert lasting 10 seconds every 30 seconds, as I recall. But always best to follow the instructions as closely as possible.
tuanvo1982 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted November 4, 2011 It is very strange because my manual doesn't mention about invert or rotate at all. The ratio of liquid is only for 1 litter and 5 litters so I don't know how to mix for 300ml. Can I use 210+30+30 ml for Developer ? 180+60+60 for Blix ? and I get stuck with STAB Anyone can help me please? Thanks
andybarton Posted November 4, 2011 Share #9 Posted November 4, 2011 If you want to make up less working solution than the full 1 litre, you just need to pro-rata the solutions. My advice, if you only need 300ml, would be to use 1/3 of the stock solutions and make it up to 333ml. That way you won't have enough for just 100ml left over and it will be easier to calculate. Is there no guidance on agitation? It could be that they expect you to use a jobo machine or similar anyway, where there is continual rotation. tuanvo1982 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted November 4, 2011 @AndyBarton : No guidance on agitation at all. I read on some websites they said rotate constantly. @Henry : DIGIBASE C-41 and Tetenal Color Colortec C-41 Rapid Negative Kit are the same? For developer and Bleach Fix, I have no problem at all because the ratio is very clear. but for STAB : 1lit = 900ml + 100ml 5lit = 4950ml + 50ml I don't know what the ratio here is If following DIGIBASE C-41 manual they use 270ml+30ml but I am not sure can I apply it for Tetenal or not. tuanvo1982 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted November 4, 2011 Do you have the 1 litre kit? yes, 1lit kit. I think I will mix 500ml because my storage is 500ml then it will be full (no air) and I can reuse in few weeks or months. It is better than 300ml or 330ml
andybarton Posted November 4, 2011 Share #14 Posted November 4, 2011 Mix 300ml + 33ml in that case.
andybarton Posted November 4, 2011 Share #15 Posted November 4, 2011 Once the bottle seal is broken, the chemicals go off very quickly. You can't keep it for More than a week or two.

Richardgb Posted November 5, 2011 Share #17 Posted November 5, 2011 You also need an accurate timer and thermometer. As already mentioned, using a water bath will help keep the temperature stable although the development is relatively short so the temp is unlikely to drop much in air unless you're in a cold room. Concerning agitation, the manufacturer of your developing tank may also give you a guide to inversion versus rotation, as well as the frequency. Playing the devil's advocate for a moment, I might ask why you want to develop your own C41 films, as there's no real variation you can do to the process if you want to get good results. You will, of course, get the satisfaction of having done it all - a kind of development test - and it may be cheaper, although wasteage may reduce the amount you save.
