Great article on '14 months with an M9'

I enjoyed reading the article and most the comments which were made. However, I do feel that the way in which some of the negative comments relating to HDR were expressed, were on the border of being offensive.

I happen to like HDR and some of the people on the forum, who were responsible for selecting the images for the last Forum Charity book evidently feel the same way, as the image of mine, which was included in the book, was HDR. I have no problem with people who disagree with my like for HDR, but I do have a problem with anyone whose opinions are expressed in an offensive manner.

Leica cameras are great in my opinion, but they are there to be enjoyed in any photographic style which pleases the owner and not just in the "classic" way.

Reminds me of a story: I was in Kuwait in the late seventies and I heard a conversation between a local arab and a European who worked for the Rolls Royce distributor. The European said he would not sell a Roller to the Arab if he thought he was going to abuse it. The following morning the Arab went to the dealer, bought a roller with cash, drove it out onto the street and hand-painted the four corner panels orange, this being a requirement for taxis. He put a sign on the roof and for a couple of years there was a roller driving around Kuwait as a taxi.

Surely it's the same with cameras. You pay your money and if you want to use it to knock nails in that's your business. I use mine, amongst other things for HDR.

Have a nice weekend.

Cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom, I think you are right. I put the link to the article up because I felt it expressed the enjoyment a photographer got from his camera. This is what I feel is important, using the camera and not how the camera is used.

It amazes me how some people feel the must comment negatively on other people’s photographs whether the photographer looks for comments or not. If people don’t like the photographs then they should say nothing. If they don’t like HDR, who cares??? However, constructive criticism is great and should be expected.

A lot of the comments on this thread were of the 'I couldn’t look at the pictures because...' verity. Not helpful.

I feel this forum should be helping people to take better photographs by encouragement, to experiment, and to all things Leica.

Scott,

Great article, and the use of photos was an editorial decision you guys made. I have no problem with that.

Everyone's style is unique and I think it is wonderful we see how others use their camera. Some of the condescending remarks made on this thread are laughable and might even have a kernel of jealousy or insecurity to them.

I never really thought about an 18mm lens on the M9, but you gave me (too much) food for thought.

Keep up the great work and continue spreading the Leica gospel. I might wager that your blog does more to promote Leica and Leica glass than 95% of the complaining forum members do through their work.

(Disclosure - I have been following the blog for a long time!)
