Leica "L" or "C" seal

So presumably a camera serviced in Solms will no longer be "L"-sealed there... Interesting, I would have thought that an L-sealed, official repair would command a premium today, and justify sending your camera to Leica instead of elsewhere.

Anyway, many thanks!

Yes, 'presumably' is the important word here, as I don't know whether Solms still applies 'L' seals to the cameras they repair now. Perhaps somebody who has had an M film body repaired by Solms recently can enlighten us?

As to who performs the repair and the resulting theoretical premium - I believe that a repair performed by DAG or Sherry Krauter (among others) would have the same result on the camera's value as a repair done at the mothership.

Cheers,

Jan

I'm sure that's right.

And I agree: it would be great if anyone who has recently sent a wax-sealed film camera to Solms could say what (if any) seal they got back.

I gather that DAG and Sherry Krauter use their own seals, which makes things simpler. Others (like Malcolm Taylor) do not, so the added value of their work could only be documented by means of an invoice.

Thanks.
