Advertisement Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Hi Lucklik, Take a look here What differences between V-Lux1 and DMC-FZ50?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Riley Posted February 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2007 Different settings on the internal camera software (firmware), responsible for the contrast, the color saturation and edge definition. The three factors can be set to three different stages (Low - Standard - High) on the camera. Leica has deliberately agreed to a more neutral setting here. Our Standard setting therefore corresponds to Panasonic's Low setting. The Panasonic Lumix cameras cannot reach Leica's Low setting. Warranty provisions are vastly different. Leica is what 2 or 3 yrs warranty, Panasonic might be 6 months. The experience with Panasonic LC-1 and Digilux 2 sensor failures, has seen Leica fund replacement of the sensor even though the camera is out of warranty. Panasonic are looking for a customer contribution for the same issue. The software with the camera is usually different too

Where did you get this information? Is anybody aware of some test pictures anywhere which compare the Pana with the Leica? rgs Luc
biglouis Posted February 17, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 17, 2007 Hmmm. I can't say because I do not own either or both (so you may want to ignore everything from this point onwards :-). I can give you the benefit of a parallel experience. I toyed with the idea for a long time of getting a C-LUX 1 and then decided to get the Panasonic FX-01 (e.g. the de-Leica'd version). The Leica version is UKP 349 and I picked up the FX-01 in a sale for £145 (you do the math). Boy, am I glad I did that. Firstly, the Panasonic packaging is every bit as good as the Leica so you do not feel you have bought a cheap imitation when you receive it (to the extent that is of any consequence, anyway). Secondly, the FX-01 is great camera (and you can see some excellent shots here from other users as well as myself) but it has some serious flaws. If I had paid more than double the price to have the Leica badge I would have felt very sick indeed. I'm probably going to be flamed to death for saying this (but bear in mind I am a D-LUX 2 owner so I have demonstrated my loyalty to the Leica badge) but I seriously doubt even the implied 'tweaks' - which I believe is marketing double-talk - justify getting the Leica, if budget is important to you. As to the comment about a six months warranty on the Panasonic vs a longer warranty on the Leica - from your location you are in the EU and I am not aware of any EU country where your statutory rights do not extend at least one year if not more. And in three years, who knows if Leica or Panasonic will still have spares for cameras which will have long been deleted from their ranges, so why worry? By all means, follow my lead and buy the Leica because there is no doubt about it, it does look cool. But don't be mislead into thinking there is some vast difference between the two products because I'd set my (non-existent) reputation on stating there is little to none. Cyrshot Posted February 17, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2007 Luc, I have the V lux 1, it is a great camera. I think it's worth purchasing it over the panasonic version. Click on "Tags" at the top right of the leica forum screen and select V Lux 1. That will give you all the recent posts and pictures on the camera. -Matt
jgs Posted April 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 25, 2007 I have the Lumix, it is a great camera. Matt, your answer was not really an answer. I have yet to find a difference. No one has been able to point one out. Already a Leica owner, I had the Lumix and Leice V Lux 1 both on the dealer's counter and compared. I see no difference (exept for badging). I am sure they are identical. I now own the Lumix. Saved some good $$. Still have my other Leica.
wonson1 Posted April 26, 2007 Share #7 Posted April 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had a FX-01 and traded it in for a C Lux 1 - the FX-01 produced better photos than the C Lux does (more definition in particular)

Is this gospel or is it just quoting and misquoting the story that was getting around regarding the Digilux2 / Panasonic Lwhateverish it was? In the unlikely event that they are different it will only be for in camera processed JPEG files and you probably wont notice one to the other. If you are digtally aware and at all concerned you shoot RAW files and post process.

egibaud Posted April 26, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 26, 2007 The color of the logo is different, completly different ! I've read a lot about this and, I am still not convinced there is a difference. Although $150 for some more garanty and a dcent SD card is probably worth. You are likely to keep a camera bought today a lot longer than a camera bought 3 years ago. And even if it sound stupid, a red dot IS a red dot :-) Eric
