Why so coy?

I have just bought an X1 to go with my M8. First impressions are that it is capable of very high image quality but only if the focus is spot on and I'm finding that less than easy. The image characteristics are slightly different to those from the M8. A bit softer unsharpened but sharper when given the exactly the same sharpening treatment as the M8 files - strange. Perhaps it has something to do with AA filtering. AWB is quite a lot better than the M8. I only ever use DNG and Adobe ACR 6.x and Photoshop CS5.

What surprises me is the relative lack of technical details available from Leica about the X1. When the M8 came out every detail of the file compression etc was published. For the X1 virtually nothing. What is the X1's DNG file structure? ACR 6 tells me it's 16 bit - but is it compressed? The DNG files are 18MB which is a lot bigger than the ~10MB from the M8 but even so it does still seem to imply some degree of compression.

Who supplies the sensor? We all know its Kodak for the M8/M9; but the X1? Some reviewers seem to imply its Nikon; but is it?

Then there is the lens configuration; 8 elements in 6 groups with 1 aspheric. Every detail of every M lens is published with diagrams, mtf, distortion etc. For the X1; nothing.

Perhaps it just does not matter, perhaps the target customer is not interested or may even be put off by too much technical information.
