Advertisement Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Hi mmradman, Take a look here Cheap Lux 50mm ASPH @ Ffordes. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bpalme Posted October 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2011 Hmm..I think it's gone already.
mmradman Posted October 6, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted October 6, 2011 Maybe I shouldn't be shouting about it but Ffordes has good choice at good prices, this was second Lux 50mm ASP at £2000 mark that i noticed in last several months. I picked up several nice R lenses and one M lens at Ffordes at very reasonable price and really don't understand all this hype where people pay over the odds for certain sought after Leica items. bpalme Posted October 6, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 6, 2011 Yeah, I'm waiting on new because I refuse to pay the crazy ebay prices. BTW there is a 24 Lux for retail price at Fredmiranda if anyone is interested.
Lord Fluff Posted October 7, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 7, 2011 I was wondering how that lens sold so quickly, right from under me. Ah well, hope it did indeed go to someone on the forum, and you enjoy your new lens.

wda Posted October 7, 2011 Share #7 Posted October 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ffordes is my local dealer. I'm a lucky boy. Well Done, Peter! Do tell us how accurately it focuses on your M? That is often a risk with used specimens. I hope you are lucky.
Peter H Posted October 7, 2011 Share #8 Posted October 7, 2011 Well Done, Peter! Do tell us how accurately it focuses on your M? That is often a risk with used specimens. I hope you are lucky. Sorry, I mislead you. They are my local dealer, but I didn't buy the 50 from them. But it is wonderful that they're so close! Actually, I bought my 50 Summilux ASPH from Leica Mayfair a few months back. I phoned them about something else, asked about the latest situation regarding the supply of new 50 Summiluxes and they said "If you'd like one, we have one here on the shelf." So I bought it and its the most beautiful lens. So, I am lucky.

mmradman Posted October 7, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted October 7, 2011 Good thing is there are few other dealers other than Mayfair, lenses can be bought below list price saving hundreds.
Peter H Posted October 7, 2011 Share #12 Posted October 7, 2011 Good thing is there are few other dealers other than Mayfair, lenses can be bought below list price saving hundreds. True. But they do sometimes have items that are otherwise pretty much completely unavailable. As always, it pays to shop around.
Lord Fluff Posted October 9, 2011 Share #13 Posted October 9, 2011 lenses can be bought below list price saving hundreds. Where from?
mmradman Posted October 9, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted October 9, 2011 Where from? Jacobs, Ffordes, Harrison Camera...all it takes is several clicks to check online. I bought brand new Lux 50 ASPH for £2300 from Jacobs, that is 200 quid below list, or how about 2 week old Cron 90mm AA for £2K from Harrison Camera that is I think 600 quid below list If Jacobs and out of London stores are below your level please continue shopping at Mayfair store. Lord Fluff Posted October 10, 2011 Share #15 Posted October 10, 2011 how about 2 week old Cron 90mm AA for £2K from Harrison Camera that is I think 600 quid below list Technically that's a 'used' lens, so therefore may be considered cheating

mmradman Posted October 10, 2011 Author Share #18 Posted October 10, 2011 Sometimes it might be - you'll do well if you can make that logic work for anywhere that has a 35 Lux FLE, Noctilux 0.95...... I have very nice chap in Jacobs shop in Notts who never disappoints, I honestly recommend anyone to check them out. I dealt with Classic Camera, RG Lewis and Richard Caplan in London with utmost satisfaction but London is far away for me. Perhaps I should say I have developed good working relationship with my camera salesperson. Several months ago i decided to buy new Lux 50 ASPH, after checking prices from all Leica stockists in UK decided to deal with Jacobs. Contrary to online buzz where this lens is literally non obtainable Jacobs promised me 3 months, as it turned out i got it in 3 weeks. I suspect I would get similar service from few other shops but wanted to deal face to face on such a substantial purchase, as I frequently visit Notts so it helped with choosing camera shop. You better not tempt me with 35 Lux FLE or Noctilux 0.95 i might just be able to get them in no time. One more note; as of lately I took a job in Manchester, local Leica dealer was on my pro/against list.

mmradman Posted October 11, 2011 Author Share #20 Posted October 11, 2011 Because sometime one doesn't wish to wait for months on end until Ffordes or any other dealer finally get the lens you want in stock... Waiting, why? You must be time poor and money rich, good on you (money bit). If you read rest of the thread you will see that waiting for months and paying list are not the only options. While I am at this let me just say two more things; a) When i walked in Jacobs to order my Lux they had chrome version in stock but i wanted black and I was prepared to wait. I could have bought S/H from Red Dot Camera much cheaper but didn't liked their courrier of choice.
