Hi,

could anyone recommend a company that do the Leica M mount to Canon EOS adapter.

i ordered one.

pixco, something like that. firstly it mounted the lens upside down.

and i was completely unable to focus with any of my Leica lens.

so if this is in the wrong place, sorry.

hopefully someone out there will know something.

thanks

Steve

That's for R lenses, not M.

I haven't heard of any M -> Canon adaptors. I would have thought that the registration distance would have been all wrong, given how close the back of the lens is to the film plane in an M and on the Canon you have a huge great mirror in the way.

i am gonna guess you are right, and i was sold a pup....

soo.. what if i used those metal macro rings to see if i could adjust the distance.?

Hi,

so if this is in the wrong place

Hi Steve,

You are in a good place.

M lenses are designed to work on RF (rangefinder) equivalent to modern mirrorless cameras with short flange to film/sensor distance, this distance is referred to as registry distance. For Leica M registry distance is 27.8mm.

SLR cameras incorporate flip-up mirror that requires much bigger flange to film distance therefore native SLR lenses and cameras have registry distance exceeding 40mm. Leica SLR R system registry is 47mm while for Canon EOS system it is 44mm.

Lenses with longer distance will fit via adapter cameras with shorter distance and maintain infinity focus but not other way round. In case of short registry lens on long registry body it is like putting extension ring, lens works as extreme close up and infinity focus is lost.

So by now you got the picture...:)

Even if you buy adapter (you can buy virtually everything and anything on fleeBAY) that allows you to bolts M lens to EOS camera each lens is now in extreme close-up mode and focus plane is pretty much just in front of the front lens element so it is plain and simple useless for normal shooting into distance.

Only exception for rangefinder lenses either M or screw are those designed for VISIO system where reflex mirror housing is inserted between the camera and lens, but this is special old sub category of the Leica range.
