delander †Posted September 27, 2011 Share #1  Posted September 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) It was not until I started into Leica that I came across the use of front lens elements with a concave front surface. Is Leica the only company doing this or is there a well established precedent? Are there any particular advantages to the concave front element?  Jeff

wattsy Posted September 27, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted September 27, 2011 Apparently there are plenty of such lenses out there.
scsambrook Posted September 27, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted September 27, 2011 Canon made a 35mm f2 FD mount lens with a concave front element in either the late 1960s or the early 1970s. It was pre-SC coating at any rate, that much I remeber because I had one. I seem to recall it attracted a good deal of comment in the photographic press, so such designs were probably uncommon back then.
