Aperture 2 Posted September 23, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted September 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry for this very basic question. Â If I place a viewfinder I can stop live view. If I stop live view the sensor is maybe off (?). I read somewhere that when the sensor get hot the picture noise increase. I was thus thinking that maybe, by using a viewfinder to stop live view I could have a cooler sensor and thus lower picture noise. Â I suppose I'm wrong... Â Thanks for any informed answer. Advertisement Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Hi Aperture 2, Take a look here No live view, lower noise ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted September 23, 2011 Share #2  Posted September 23, 2011 Sorry for this very basic question. If I place a viewfinder I can stop live view. If I stop live view the sensor is maybe off (?)......  Aperture 2, when you fit an external viewfinder you can select the LCD monitor to be 'OFF'. You do not affect the performance of the sensor. The idea it to prevent the glare of the LCD interfering with your framing judgement and to save battery power. Thus, it has two benefits. I hope this clarifies the situation for you. Aperture 2 Posted September 23, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted September 23, 2011 WDA, thank you fo your answer, the two benefits you mention are correct. What I wish to know is that if I stop live view means that the sensor get idle and thus cooler at the moment of actually taking a picture and thus maybe less noisy. Sorry if my English is not clear. mjh Posted September 23, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted September 23, 2011 The X1 is basically a live-view camera; the autofocus depends on live-view as well. If you want a camera without live-view, the X1 is not for you, with or without an optical viewfinder.
Aperture 2 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Share #5  Posted September 24, 2011 Thank you for your answer mjh, in fact I have an X1 and I m very, very happy with it.  Until now I use the X1 with live view but today I will purchase a viewfinder for easer outside photography under a bright sun.  I understand that when I half half press the autofocus will be activated and thus the sensor, my question concerned the status with the X1 ON but without live view.  Anyway this morning I got the answer to my question: when I activate the viewfinder mode and thus shut down the life view I could see that the diaphragm continues to adapt the light variations. This means that the sensor is continuously ON and not only when you press the release.  It was thus a silly question on my side - sorry for the lost time  Best regards

Guest badbob Posted September 25, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted September 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've never experienced additional noise with how long the camera has been on. I have experienced a warm camera, but how warm depends on external factors, such as ambient temperature and how you carry it when powered on, or how long the LCD is on continuously. In one test I shot about 1200 images in less than an hour using burst mode with LCD on, and the camera did not get very warm. But that was in dim light and temperature about 25c.
