The instructions say to use a ball point pen to indicate film type/speed. I have tried numerous different ball pens to write on this but none will do so. I have also tried a thin felt tip pen but the slightest touch by hand, sleeve, etc. removes whatever has been written. adan Posted September 22, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 22, 2011 I used to use those 3/4" colored round sticky labels for my M4-2 and M4-P, since the write-on surface is so pointless. More or less following the manufacturers' trademark colors for various films: red for Kodachrome, green for Tri-X/HP5, light blue for Velvia, dark blue for Provia 400, orange for Pan F, yellow for any color neg film. If I needed to note something specific like "this roll shot at EI 1600" - I could write on the label, and transfer the label to the film cassette when changing films. giordano Posted September 22, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2011 I've never owned a M4-P, but the similar "film indicator" on my Alpa VIb's worked fine with a chinagraph pencil. However, the Alpa version was positioned above the eyepiece where it didn't get rubbed by the user's clothes. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'll try stickers, chinagraph pencils, or anything else people have found that works. Then I'll decide which is best for me. The disappointing thing though, is that Leica apparently didn't do enough pre-production testing, to find out this type of reminder didn't work.
