Question for the women Leica fans on the site:

What features in a Leica Forum would you like to see here?

How could we create a more welcoming atmosphere for you here?

Who's interested in taking an active role in championing the women Leica photogs we all know are out there?

Thanks.

Allan

Are women turned off by the kind of "gear chat" that tends to dominate most forums.

Sadly its an uphill struggle to get many to talk about photography rather than equipment (though there are exceptions of course! :D)

Being new to the Leica Forum and rangefinder shooting I'm wondering whether there are any female M8 owners out there. I have not seen them participating in the forum discussions I followed.

Or are they simply better photographers :D enjoying their Leica gear, shooting great pictures rather than engaging in the competition of discovering another alleged bug in the M8, holding a finger in front of the rangefinder window and wondering why focusing was off, being driven by a strange desire to share boring family shots :( with forum members and letting others know that it (the M8) arrived!

What is your thought?

Sounds like a fair roundup on what happens here........they are doing while we males are talking, writing and cursing and generally making ourselves look a bit stooopid:eek:

General Electric have a camera out now... My wife said so what we use our gagets and don't talk about them

And there lies the reason this is a mainly male place. Talking about equipment is a "boys' toys" sort of thing.

Plus talking about photographs rather than equipment is much more difficult and requires a greater command of language IMHO.

I'm female and own a M8 but was unlucky. It went back twice to Solms since I got it end-October; one for RF finetuning and second because when I got my M8 back the first time, firmware had been upgraded to v1.09 but unfortunately randomly generated a black vertical line on the left side. So quite unacceptable. I've got my M8 back since last week and really enjoy it, i.e. spending time taking photos rather than discussing hi-tech...:)

I tend to agree that women don't tend to waste time on forums like this. My wife has a full load as it is and when she has some down time she would rather 'do' than sit on a computer.

A good example (IMO). My wife is an excellent cook. She spends a lot of time in the kitchen making meals that rival a good restaruant.

She does not spend hours discussing the wattage, voltage, ergonomics etc of her kitchen appliances.

I know 2 for sure Heidi and Cindy and both really nice ladies and had the pleasure of knowing them for a long time.

Are they members of this Forum, Guy?

It would be nice to have a more varied experience to draw from on the Forum in this regard.

Without having seen or heard much from them (other than Susan who has been a fixture here for a long, long time and rarely anymore from Darlene) it's hard to figure out what to do to entice them to participate.

Which leads me to what probably is an unfounded bias on my part such that:

In particular, I suspect they spend more time taking photos of children (perhaps even professionally) than most of our members who are men; and could be a great resource for the many, many Leica-owners that bought their camera for the specific purpose of recording the lives of their children or blessed grand-children.

Thanks.

Hii

I've had my M8 for a month or so now ..... and that makes me one of three women on the forum with an M8.

Enjoying it, although this is my off season for shooting .... so I'm not out there as much as I will be soon.

It's lovely to be liberated from the D2X and all those heavy lenses I normally cart around all day. Still working on my lens line up, down to the 28mm versus 35 lux quandry.

I do know Cindy is for sure, Heidi i believe is. Cindy just called me last week on a small issue. I do wish they would partcipate more, there a lot of fun and frankly i would love to see more women here for sure. Whatever it takes to have the women partcipate more i am all for it , nice having a balance. I personally love this board because we are all so diverse in education, locations, experience and etc etc. it makes it a fun place to be. My 2 cents
