The LIMA cable connector is great, until someone stands on it and you tip to the floor with your camera in front of you..... Just got it back after 6 weeks of repair in Germany. Luckily I had the P version, so I got a loaner to use in the meantime.... Somehow, I would rather the cable fall out and lose that image than drop the camera... Nick, We've tried to use an Eye-Fi X2 wifi SD card with the S2.DNG files took an eternity to transfer even just 10 ft to our computer. Capturing DNG to the CF card in the camera and using the Eye-Fi card to send basic JPGs worked a little better, but still not what I would call speedy. You are correct. The LEMO connector will not give way if tugged. We tend to use active USB extension cables when tethering to create more slack and increase working range from the computer. This might help in the future. Some photographers prefer to shoot a few tethered tests, then unplug and shoot to CF card for the remainder of the session as they feel it is faster and everyone isn't hovering around the computer monitor. I have a hand strap on my S2, so it is less likely to be jerked out of my hand. Less likely, but not impossible. While Leica did solve the common issue of the tether cord falling out of the camera port, the locked proprietary camera connection also created the potential of snagging or stepping on the cord and having the camera and lens take a dive onto the floor. Being proprietary also made it hard to use easy solutions already on the market for standard USB/Fire Wire 400/800 tether connections. For example: I use a Jerk Stopper Tether kit from Tether Table Aero laptop podium tray mounts on all tripods including Gitzo and Manfrotto as well as any studio photography light stand with my Hasselblad H4D/60 to keep the FW 800 tether cord from falling out of the camera port in the middle of a shoot. Since there are short FW 800 extensions (12" or 36"), I also use one of those from the camera to the longer FW 800 tether ... that way it disconnects at that point if the cord gets snagged or stepped on while I'm moving around on the set or location. One could do the same thing with the S2 if there was a shorter tether cord version of the current one. If anyone could make one by shortening the current one it would be Paramount Sync Cords for Professional Digital and Flash Photography ... who has made shorter off-camera TTL flash cords for Nikon for years.
