I would like to try some of my D-lux 5 shots in black and white. My question is, the pictures all have a green look to them when downloaded into LR3, is it ok just to convert them straight to b&w or should I carry out some adjustment to get rid of the green first. I'd be grateful for any advice at all regarding b&w conversions and adjustments.

Thanks

OK, I have discovered that it is just a question of adjusting the white balance to get a "normal" looking picture. So far so good. Is the next step to convert to b&w and then adjust the picture, or get the coloured version looking it's best and then convert to b&w?

To convert a color image to B&W, I get the image to look good in color.

Then decompose it into three separate layers, R-G-B. These are grayscale layers (they are not in color) overlayed on each other, not separate images.

Then modify each layer's opacity and also switch around the top/middle/bottom layers (RGB, GRB, BGR etc) until I'm happy with the results. Then flatten the image (merge all layers).
