Shootist Posted August 26, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 26, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just saw over at DPR that Panasonic is coming out with a new FW for the LX5. So I would expect Leica to follow with improved FW for the DL5. As we all know they are the same camera.
Advertisement Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Hi Shootist, Take a look here New firmware for LX5, D-Lux 5 must be on its way. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

ho_co Posted August 26, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 26, 2011 It's impressive to me the way Panasonic keeps adding new features to their cameras with firmware updates a year or so into the model life. It's often just like getting a new camera for free. Leica usually follows Panasonic's updates with their own after what, two-three months? Either way, it puts new capabilities into an older box. Well done, Panasonic!
anderswi Posted August 27, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 27, 2011 *sigh* Fit a Leica grip to a Panasonic then... Regards, Bill You will not need one, because Pana has it already intergrated, at no extra charge and bulkiness. Haha!
bill Posted August 27, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Been there, done that, old chap. No need to sound triumphal. It was the larger, separate grip that led me to buy a D-lux 4 after two Panasonic LXes. I rest my case. Regards, Bill

Well done, Panasonic! It's actually borderline shocking, IMHO, in a good but unexpected way. The last firmware upgrade for the LX-3 added features that I would have expected to be introduced in a new camera/model variant, rather than a for-free firmware upgrade. jimbo035 Posted August 30, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 30, 2011 Because I simply could not afford to replace the M6, 35 Summaron & 90 Elmarit lenses I had long ago, I bought a D-Lux4 then switched to a "5" mostly for its viewfinder.... since when I cannot understand why the firmware upgrades aren't released simultaneously. I would have thought that Panasonic kept Leica informed of their intentions to release v2.0, which makes (on the face of it) Leica's "hesitancy" to keep up somewhat puzzling. Surely it is not a ploy/attempt to convince us that the efforts of the Domestic Appliance maker aren't quite up to Leica standards and require some fine tuning. ho_co Posted August 30, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 30, 2011 Jim, they're different cameras. You remember the one firmware update for LX3 (I think) which was retracted after two days because of some humongous error. It was rewritten by Panasonic and re-released after a week or so, and Leica released their version after another couple months. Let the Panasonic users have it while Leica checks out the code on its own camera. It's simply part of standard software testing procedures to check the new product even if it's simply ported over, something that obviously isn't the case between the LX5 and the D-Lux 5. Do remember that Leica are on holiday in August! David, if you're in full-function mode on the forum, just clicking the icon inserts the icon code. No drag-n-drop needed.

ho_co Posted August 31, 2011 Share #14 Posted August 31, 2011 David, I can't find where I set it, but there's an advanced mode for input that looks like this: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Over on the right are the smilies to click to insert them into the text. The smilies that appear below the text window are the ones that appear on the title line. Hope that helps; sorry I can't find the panel to set up the more full-featured entry mode, which at least previously wasn't the default. anderswi Posted September 17, 2011 Share #16 Posted September 17, 2011 I have two Leica Dlux 4, one black and one titanium. Sterling cameras. This time I bought the Panasonic LX 5, as I already had Lightroom. The other day I installed the new firmware V 2, in the Pana. There is a significant increase in autofocus speed. Very pleased. Right now the LX 5 is a faster camera than DLUX5.
john_newell Posted September 18, 2011 Share #17 Posted September 18, 2011 I have been scanning fora for any reports of problems - have found none. If anyone has seen any (for the LX-5, obviously), I'd be interested.
john_newell Posted September 22, 2011 Share #18 Posted September 22, 2011 Possibly just replying to myself here, but I have yet to find any reports of glitches in the LX-5 firmware. YMMV...

anderswi Posted December 9, 2011 Share #20 Posted December 9, 2011 I love my Panasonic LX5 much more, knowing it has faster autofocus speed than DLUX5, at a much lower pricetag. Lots of Amarone wine for the difference in price. Cheers!
