You need to check completed listings, not the asking prices.

This brilliant example got sold for $7k(around £4k) two weeks ago

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I was in a shop in London recently and a used Noctilux 11822 was sold, in front of me,

for £ 4.5k.

There is one advertised for sale right now from another London dealer at £3,990 and it is graded at EXC+, which probably means lots of signs of use, especially when considering that most dealers call mint something that very often is not.

I have also seen some Noctilux being actually sold very recently on eBay in Europe for around 5000 Euros (£4.5k).

Anyway, I think even at £3000 or £4000 this is a market just gone crazy (good for people who have bought their used Leica gear in the past, terrible for the newer Leica users).

eBay says that the average selling price is $7,700.00.

I decided to put mine up for sale and get on the list for the 0.95. What convinced me was Ashwin's article on Steve Huff's site: Revisiting The Leica Noctilux f/0.95 by Ashwin Rao | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS.

Now, maybe I'll have the luck that I had with a Rollei I bought. Sold it for more than twice what I paid for it (after two years of use).

there is something wrong going on with these lenses on ebay. I've noticed the same lenses being sold and popping up again, 3-4 times in a raw, with seller claiming buyer didnt pay, or asked to send to country different from where his paypal is registered and etc. So, be careful!

I was amused to see that the lens was advertised as coming from a “a smoke-free and pet-free home”.

I can understand a potential buyer not wanting a lens that smells of its former owner’s favourite tobacco, but having had until last month a long-haired Briard sheepdog, I can honestly report that I never found her wanting to borrow my Noctilux for the afternoon, and none of my lenses show any signs of long dog hairs between the elements.

Since she gave me an 85mm f1.5 Summarit as an Xmas present last year, I can only hope that her eventual successor will be equally generous with the vintage Leitz-era glass…

I agree with bbbonthemoon's comments about the weight of the Noctilux. With my 70th birthday not too far distant, I no longer carry the Noctilux as my standard 50mm. Like the 90mm f2 Summicron (old style) it only goes into the bag when I'm likely to be in low-light conditions.

Best regards,

Doug
