Frank Velez Posted August 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone, Was wondering if anyone knew of a B&W course in New York City that teaches how to develop B&W film. I tried a forum search, but didn't come up with anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Frank

andybarton Posted August 24, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 24, 2011 You might find this interesting - and free http://www.ilfordphoto.com/Webfiles/200629163442455.pdf If you can boil an egg, or make a sandwich, you can develop a film. Edit: I have just had a look at the evening courses run in the NYC link above. 10 weeks - 3 hours per week. $8,000 Is that some sort of joke? (I fear not...) And we are complaining about student fees over here...
tobey bilek Posted August 24, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 24, 2011 Ilford website. Child play. C41 and E6 a bit harder. Buy quality tanks. This is not a place to save money.
PaulM Posted August 24, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2011 Try the Educational Alliance on the Lower East Side. They probably still have inexpensive introductory B&W courses. Also, look into the School of Visual Arts. Good luck, Paul
firststream Posted August 24, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 24, 2011 Andy, yikes you almost gave me a heart attack with that fee. A check here International Center of Photography - School shows most of the courses are around $700.00, which I consider reasonable.
andybarton Posted August 24, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) $8,000 is what it says on their website. http://shopping.icp.org/school/continuing/course.html?category_id=202&product_id=34084 The Ilford PDF tells you all you need to know, and costs precisely nothing. Don't waste your money. Even $700 buys all the equipment you will ever need, plus enough chemistry to last a lifetime. Probably.
