Thanks for the comment. I've tried to get some detail in the dark areas by reducing contrast in Lightroom which accounts for what you a seeing. I've increased the colour saturation and the contrast ( very slightly ) in this version.

That seems to have improved it slightly. A fine picture.

Have you tried "Fill Light" rather than reduce contrast?

Yes Bill I did, the fill light slider is set at 20. Any more and the black begins to look 'washed' out. Given the range of brightness from the black of the hull to the sunlit pavement I think it's about as good as it's going to get and of course my monitor is uncalibrated and about seven years old so what you are seeing may differ to what appears on my screen.

Sorry Bill I didn't mean it that way. I was just answering your question but reading the post again it does seem a bit sharp and that wasn't my intention. I do appreciate any observations made as to how my photos can be improved and so I should be the one who is sorry if my reply seemed brusque. :o
