jwr50 Posted August 16, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm an amateur photographer and M9 user who spent this past weekend at Leica Akademie North America's first-ever 2-day weekend workshop in Victoria, BC, Canada . . . . and I can say without hesitation that it was a worthwhile event. Fourteen students in the workshop -- mostly serious amateurs but a couple of pros as well. At least one participant was relatively new to rangefinders. Quinton Gordon and Tom Smith (Leica Akademie) hosted the event, and Ted Grant of Victoria was even kind enough to donate some of his time to the workshop as well. It was a nice balance of "technical" stuff (M9 controls, Lightroom, etc.) and "artsy" stuff -- as much as you can put into a two-day course. There was a notebook of Leica materials for participants that was itself first-rate. Lots of Leica equipment was made available to borrow and use for the weekend, so if you're on the fence regarding an M9, this is a good way to see if it is for you. So, if you have the opportunity, I'd highly recommend one of these workshops.

yann Posted August 18, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2011 I attended the workshop in Victoria over the past week-end and I also highly recommend it. I left the workshop really inspired to move my photography to the next level. It's a unique experience to be exposed to talented pros. It was a good mix of lectures and hands-on. I haven't received the voucher yet but I believe that it can be used against the purchase of any serialized M (i.e. lens or body).
StephenPatterson Posted August 18, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 18, 2011 do you know what the terms of the credit voucher are? thanks The voucher I received via email stated: "This voucher can be redeemed only after the brand new M or S serial numbered Leica product is registered. This mail in voucher cannot be combined with any other promotion. One voucher per product. After registration is completed, a US $ check will be mailed to you. KCS Posted August 21, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2011 I attended the Seattle Street Photography workshop yesterday and it was a lot of fun. The instruction was really good, the workshop was well-organized, and included some insightful critique. I learned a lot. And of course nothing is better than spending the day group of M9 shooters :-) Kudos to Leica for setting up the workshops. I'll definitely keep a look out for future offerings. K. algrove Posted August 21, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Glad to hear all liked the events. Was there any mention of expanding the dates in the future? Want to attend one ,but had conflicts with every date published thus far.
jwr50 Posted August 21, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted August 21, 2011 I did not hear any discussion of new dates during the Victoria weekend workshop, but the workshops do seem to be well attended, so I would not be surprised to see Leica Akademie and new dates as this relatively new program unfolds. Swanny66 Posted August 22, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2011 I enjoyed the event in Minneapolis. There was one lady who kind of took the whole thing over by questioning every line item of the menu causing us to miss out on some other items. But I would like ot attend a more advanced workshop in regards to technique, etc.
