nick angel Posted February 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M7 which is less than a year old and has had less than 50 films through it. The shutter has jammed twice now. Last time it was sent off for repair to Germany and the report back was that a fragment of film had broken off and jammed the mechanism. It is probably the same fault this time as the symptoms are the same. It is a very disappointing probelm. Has anyone else come accross the same thing? Shootist Posted February 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2007 I've never had film break inside the camera in any Leica, R4s or M3's, or any other film camera I have ever used. About the only way I could think of film breaking inside the camera was when you are rewinding it. Maybe you need to be more careful rewinding the film and take it a little slower on the rewind knob. masjah Posted February 11, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2007 Nick Probably not relevant in your case, but I was once warned to make sure that films out of the firdge or freezer were back up at room temperature (-ish) before loading, because the film base is more brittle when cold, and this sort of thing might occur. telyt Posted February 11, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2007 I've had film tear inside the camera when I was advancing the film a bit too enthusiatically at the end of the roll. Sprocket holes tore and on rewinding the film tore apart, leaving most of the film wound around the film take-up spool (with no changing bag and 24 hrs of daylight in Alaska!). flavio Posted February 11, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 11, 2007 Nick, I am experienced a similar problem yesterday, for the first time, with my M4. I was going between film number 25 and 26 when suddenly the shutter got jammed. I was able to rewind the film but nothing else. I don't know what may be happen. It was ironic that I ended my on the field work with a digital Nikon Coolpix camera. Paradoxical? :-) Tomorrow I will bring the camera to the mechanical lab in order to understand if they will be able to resolve the problem or I have to ship to others. Just trying to compare the things: How about the cost you had to pay? Flavio
