Print banding in Aperture o.k. in Lightroom.

Recommended Posts

Apologies for the short post! I pressed something!!

To continue; I suspect that the problem is due to both Aperture and the printer trying to manage the printing. Aperture recommends that the printer's Print Management and letting Aperture control the process.

My printer is a Canon IP4700 A4 printer. I've looked at the options for the printer as shown in System preferences on my Mac but can't find how to turn off print Management. I also can't find the printer's user manual - probably recycled.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Mike.

A bit out of my depth since I've never used Canon printers (except an "Apple" printer actually built by Canon about 15 years ago) - but with Epson printers, the place to turn off the printer's color management is NOT in "System Preferences" - but in the final printer dialogue box that comes up once you press the print button in your editing program. The same place where you choose the media type (matte, plain paper, photo paper), printing resolution (300, 600, 2400 dpi or whatever), and number of copies, etc.

I posted an image of this dialogue in post #8 of this thread (bottom-most image): http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-post-processing-forum/192815-colour-calibration-nightmare-nurse-required.html

Halfway down is the item "Color Mode: Off (No color management)" - I presume Canon has a similar option/button somewhere in their printing software controls.

That being said - usually fine white lines are due to one of the printer heads (esp. black) getting a clog in one "jet." They can come and go, so it is possible you just got (or removed) a clog between the LR print and the Aperture print. On the rare occasions I've accidentally printed with double color management, I got screwy colors, but don't recall seeing banding.

Additionally, "slippage" in the print head alignment can cause those white lines. The printer software (again, Epson is what I know) allows for making alignment tests and adjustments.
