IkarusJohn Posted August 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I finally got round to processing a couple of rolls of film the other day, and I want to catch up on some scanning. Sadly, my Epson V700 scanner doesn't work with OSX Lion (Doh!). Has anyone managed to find a driver for this scanner that works with Lion? The Epson site says that it will be upgraded by Apple as part of the OS upgrade process - great. That and a number of other drivers. Anyone find a solution for this? or do I just wait ... Advertisement Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Hi IkarusJohn, Take a look here Epson V700 drivers for OSX Lion?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2011 Vuescan.
jpattison Posted August 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2011 Andy, the OP needs a driver, not an app. Usually the updated OS includes generic drivers, the list on this Apple support page seems to indicate the V700 is covered... OS X Lion, Mac OS X v10.6: Printer and scanner software Epson Perfection V700/V750 * version 5.3.12 * = Vendor software recently updated via Software Update. XK50 Posted August 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 3, 2011 No need to wait ... or stray! The drivers from the original cds don't work under Lion, as you've found, but the two year old "updates", from the Epson Support site and intended for Snow Leopard, do. I've had no trouble scanning, this week, using the Epson software. Best wishes, John
andybarton Posted August 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2011 Andy, the OP needs a driver, not an app. Vuescan needs no drivers. It just works. The Pro version just works - forever.
Karreaux Posted August 4, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 4, 2011 I also have a V700 and OS Lion , everything works over here, no need for other drivers.... BUT my scans aren't sharp anymore, it looks like they are all off-focus a little bit with is very frustrating. Can this have to do something with the new computer + new software thing..? jpattison Posted August 4, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Vuescan needs no drivers. It just works. The Pro version just works - forever. Sorry to be a pedant, yes it uses the MacOS's generic driver. With Windows it installs VueScan drivers. But hey, there's no need anyway as John should be OK with system update having first connected a switched on scanner. John
andybarton Posted August 4, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 4, 2011 Not pedantry, very useful. I only ever use OSX for important stuff. Windows is strictly for boring office stuff that generates "FFSs" on a regular basis...
IkarusJohn Posted September 26, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted September 26, 2011 Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I'm still having trouble. I have loaded Vuescan Pro, and reloaded my Epson Perfection V700 in OSX Lion. Scanning a full tray or B&W negatives gives this result. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? tobey bilek Posted September 26, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 26, 2011 This being why me and others I know will not update. Once you have something working, leave it alone.

andybarton Posted September 27, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 27, 2011 You are scanning frame Nr 2 only?
IkarusJohn Posted September 27, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted September 27, 2011 You are scanning frame Nr 2 only? No, that was just an example. I canceled the scan when I saw what was coming out. I got the same result using Epson Scan, and trying to scan from both my iMac & from my MacBook. It's either Lion related, or there's a hardware problem, I guess. I just hoped that someone here might recognise it, and tell me I have some setting wrong or have some other simple way to sort it. tobey bilek Posted September 27, 2011 Share #14 Posted September 27, 2011 scan in neg or black and white mode. You have transparency selected. Shut off auto everything and scan manually.
IkarusJohn Posted September 28, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted September 28, 2011 Sorted - some one had inserted the white backing board into the lid, so scanning either negatives or transparencies wouldn't work. So, the V700 seems to work just fine in OSX Lion, and VueScan Pro seems to work well. Many thanks to Ed Hamrick for pointing me in the right direction!
