Hugivza Posted August 1, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted August 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I succumbed to purchasing the viewfinder for the X1 - brilliant in all senses of the word. It was worth every penny that I persuaded my wife to part with.
Advertisement Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Hi Hugivza, Take a look here Leica X1 Viewfinder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert blu Posted August 1, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted August 1, 2011 I agree with you 100%. And it makes photography in an open sunny space easier. robert PS hmmm, to work with the LCD when shooting indoors is not so bad...
Stevieozoz Posted August 1, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted August 1, 2011 I also enjoy using my 36mm Voigtlander OVF - - I have a silver one on my black X1! Â Just for fun, I often spend a whole day shooting with the monitor turned off and resist the urge to see the photos until a day or two later - - just like in the days when we put in our negs for processing and had to wait until they were ready. And you know what, with the little X1 set on aperture priority (or fully auto) and just relying on the 'beep' that says 'focus confirmed', or setting a manual focus point (for DOF), I'm always surprised to see photographs that are the equal, if not better in some cases, than my old M6 - - of say 100 shots, probably 98 are spot on. Â And if you shoot in B&W High Contrast - - well, I'm taken back to the 'good old days', prowling the streets with the M6 full of Tri-X and a 35mm Summilux set on f11 and zone focused for about 10 feet to forever. Lovely! Â What a great little camera!
robert blu Posted August 1, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted August 1, 2011 again, 100% agree ! robert PS: shooting and not chimping will be the new game!

Whitford Posted August 9, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted August 9, 2011 I just picked up the viewfinder from a local camera shop. Â I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but I could swear it sits slightly crooked in the hotshoe. I tested this by lining an object up with one of the vertical lines in the finder and the composition was indeed slightly off upon image review. Â Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Or should I return it for another? Â Also, the viewfinder rattles a bit as if something inside is loose. Is that normal? Â Thanks!
symmetron Posted August 10, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted August 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the same viewfinder and it does not rattle. You might want to take it back and exchange it; especially given its cost.

Whitford Posted August 11, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted August 11, 2011 Upon VETTRAN's advice, I returned to the shop where I bought the finder and had it swapped out. Â Thanks again.
pharyngula Posted August 12, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted August 12, 2011 I don't know about anyone else but I would like to point out that the rubber eye guard on my X1 viewfinder kept falling off. Miraculously, I managed to find it on several occasions and finally decided to tack it back in place with some super glue. I thought that solved it until I noticed a couple weeks ago that it was gone.....this time for good. Â My primary reason for choosing the Leica over the Voigtlander (aside from convincing myself it might have a presumed edge in optical quality) was the feeling it was more eyeglass friendly. The rubber eye guard was a key part of the reason for thinking this (the Leica viewfinder also extends beyond the back of the X1 a bit more). Â I agree it is a nice viewfinder otherwise - just be careful about the rubber eye guard. Hopefully, Leica will make a replacement part available. I'm waiting to hear back from them. Solar B Posted August 12, 2011 Share #11  Posted August 12, 2011 Mine started to rattle as well so i returned it for a refund.  I have heard and suspect that the Voigtlander is the better built of the two  This was my third Leica viewfinder ... so i have an idea as to their quality  Brian
Stevieozoz Posted August 13, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted August 13, 2011 I've used the same Voigtlander 35mm for about 5 years and it has remained 100% perfect. I've dropped it, stepped on it and lost it but it always finds its way back to the camera in perfect condition. I also have the Leica viewfinders and find that the rubber cap comes off if you slide the camera into a camera bag with a snug fit - - it drags on the grippy rubber ad eventually it'll come off. The Voigtlander being 100% metal never has that problem and BTW, I also wear glasses - - again, no problem. Because I just set the camera at 5.8 and manually zone focus for DOF with the shutter on A, I just take a quick glance through the viewfinder and for this, the Voigtlander is best. Last point is that I think the Voigtlander looks better - - I have a silver one on top of my black X1.

As glasses wearer it is important for me and I ask them for two pieces! When I had a similar problem with my Nikon FM2 and old photographer suggest me to glue the rubber ring with vinyl glue (the one used for wood) because it is enough not to loose it again and not too strong. I'll do it with my X1 VF ! robert PS unfortunately for me it is holiday time in Italy and I have to wait untill september...
jippiejee Posted August 20, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted August 20, 2011 I also lost my rubber eye guard I have no idea where to obtain a new one. I'll try the official service partner for Leica now, but if anyone has found an easy source, I'd like to know.

Snap Happy Posted December 30, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted December 30, 2011 I also lost the little rubber ring on my X1 finder. Adeal, the Australian distributor responded to my email that "I have had confirmation from Leica the item that you require is available as a spare part.....It will take approximately 6-8 weeks for the part to arrive from Germany. Â I have also been advised by Germany the following application for this part "Your customer can use 2-3 small drops of clear nail varnish to fix the rubber on the viewfinder."
