napawino Posted July 27, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted July 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone. I took the plunge and ordered an X1. I'll have it by the end of the day tomorrow. It will be my first high quality compact. Â I'm excited to see what it can do. Â Kind of a worthless topic, but I thought I'd use it to say HI. napawino Posted July 28, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted July 28, 2011 I'm pretty stoked. My other camera is a Pentax K-5. But most of the time, it's just "too much kit" to drag around the places I like to go, and people shy away when they see the evil big black DSLR come into action. I have a bunch of lenses for it, but I find myself sticking with a 31mm prime 90% of the time. Â The X1 will be a breath of fresh air.
businessasusual Posted July 28, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted July 28, 2011 I found playing around with focus/iso and metering options really helped me determine "my" preferred settings - that is, in the beginning I was perturbed about out of focus shots the realised I just needed to adjust settings for my own desired outcomes and it does not disappoint. Sharp as a tack and great metering. Portability is awesome - after lugging Canon and 2 L lenses on a trip, never again. The X1 goes in my bag everywhere. I have added viewfinder and Ciesta (off eBay) half hase - no grip, leather case is my grip - black with red stitching - looks so kewl! Viewfinder takes some getting used to too - where light permits I use LCD screen. Not fast but has not been a problem - not photographing Formula 1. Ah, and opening the box it comes it - like being a big kid at Xmas - and be aware that feeling is addictive. Also, left manual in box and downloaded manual off Leica site saved as pdf on my screen for reference. :D

wda Posted July 28, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted July 28, 2011 Also, left manual in box :D Â A pity; such excellent bed-time reading! And rather easier to refer to in a hurry.

napawino Posted July 29, 2011 Author Share #11  Posted July 29, 2011 All charged up!  I decided to put it to the ultimate test. At least for me, anyway. This Fender Telecaster is super hard to capture. With every other camera I've ever owned, it either comes out way too orange, way too brown, or with a reddish tint. Never exactly what they eye sees.  This photo, taken with my new X1 captures EXACTLY what it looks like. No tint, no extra yellow. THIS is what is looks like. Amazing. At least for me it is. No processing, except a slight crop to get rid of my knees, and a resize for the forum format.  Same with the color of the inside of the case. THAT is the color. Exactly.  My Pentax K-5 chokes on this assignment, and I end up spending 10 minutes in Lightroom fixing the colors.  Pretty good first assignment.  Grade: A+ Welcome, dear visitor! napawino Posted July 29, 2011 Author Share #14  Posted July 29, 2011 I've never owned a digital camera that renders colors so accurately. This is what my eye sees. Taken with the "macro" function. No PP, only a crop. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
