pico Posted July 25, 2011 Share #101 Posted July 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) So if MF digital camera appears, at affordable price and size, considering files quality boost it provides, many of the hobbyst/professional are supposed to switch. And now, they are the people, who affect the prices, and lens makers will be happy to address their new needs. So the subtext is that the S2 is too expensive. Do you know that other-brand lens adapters are already being made to fit the S2?

bbbonthemoon Posted July 25, 2011 Author Share #103 Posted July 25, 2011 If you can discover a way to make a camera bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, then forget the camera stuff and apply it to women's fashions. Cant see your point Leica S2 sensor size: 45 х 30mm Canon 5d mark ii dimensions: 152x114mm Leica M9 dimensions: 139x80mm Btw, S2 is 160x120mm, already almost in size of 5D

Keith (M) Posted July 25, 2011 Share #105 Posted July 25, 2011 Lots of for's and against's, if's and but's, pros and cons exhibited in this thread (just ploughed through it all). Personally, when it comes to an alternative to 35mm I am hedging my bets - this come with twelve quickly replaceable and economical sensors... Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted July 25, 2011 Share #107 Posted July 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) There are already MF digital at lower price and weight,Pentax 645D, priced around 10k usd (not that far from D3X) with weight of 1.5kg(again close to pro 35mm digital cameras). How long it will take before we see MF digital cameras around 3-5k price brackets and even lesser size/weight? When high quality, small-as-M9 camera interchangeable lens FF35 prices are lowered to about $2k. IOW, never.

AlanG Posted July 25, 2011 Share #109 Posted July 25, 2011 The 1D series and some pro Nikon cameras are large because those users like them that way and also want the vertical grip. The 5D shows that FF DSLR camera can be made smaller and lighter. I don't see why a FF DSLR camera couldn't be about the size of the smallest APS DSLR body and smaller still if it uses the semi mirrored plus EVF technology of the latest Sony models. Certainly a FF digital SLR the size of an OM 1 would be easy today. This is what it took to get 7 fps back then. Welcome, dear visitor! AlanG Posted July 25, 2011 Share #111 Posted July 25, 2011 When high quality, small-as-M9 camera interchangeable lens FF35 prices are lowered to about $2k. IOW, never. I think it would be easy for Sony to scale up the Nex design to full frame and add an EVF. This could be smaller than an M9. But I don't think they will do this. Likewise I think it would be easy for Canon to take the technology out of whatever will be a 5DIII, remove the mirror box and use an EVF to produce a smaller, lighter, less expensive camera, if they wish. (And if they see a market for it.)

pico Posted July 25, 2011 Share #113 Posted July 25, 2011 Didn't do the math but the Planar 80/2 must have less DoF than any Noctilux i guess. The following uses conventional Circle of confusion metrics for each format. Larger format == larger CoC in order to normaliize sharpness at normal viewing distance, and each presumes nominal focal length. Planar 80/2 Over 6x6 film @ 10' Circle of confusion 0.045 mm In front of subject 0.40 ft (48%) Behind subject 0.44 ft (52%) (total 0.84 ft) Noctilux f/1 50mm over 35mm film @ 10' Circle of confusion 0.03 mm In front of subject 0.35 ft (48%) Behind subject 0.37 ft (52%) (total 0.72 ft) Summilux 75mm f/1.4 over 35mm film @10' Circle of confusion 0.03 mm In front of subject 0.22 ft (49%) Behind subject 0.23 ft (51%) (total .45 feet)
